Hey everyone, I'm sure this is a rookie question, but I got the control panel wired up last night and everything is working except the trackball and buttons. It lights up like it supposed to but nothing happens.
I have this trackball - http://www.jammaboards.com/store/2-1-4-ps2-led-illuminating-pc-mame-arcade-trackball-led-trackball.html (http://www.jammaboards.com/store/2-1-4-ps2-led-illuminating-pc-mame-arcade-trackball-led-trackball.html)
The green LED lights up but the mouse is not moving on the screen. It's connected through a PS2 port.
It also has 3 wires (red, yellow, white) and a ground (black). I only need the left and right mouse clicks so which color wires would these be? I guessed the red and white wires.
It also turns red when I press one of the connected buttons but still nothing happens on the screen.
Any help? Thanks in advance!

Enable Mouse 1 in your mame.ini file. Familiar with that?
-
Thanks for the reply Hoopz. I'm not really familiar with that. I'm guessing I need to open up the mame.ini file in notepad and change the mouse 1 from a 0 to a 1 to enable it?
Also, the trackball isn't moving the mouse arrow or left/right clicking in windows either?

For the first question, yes open the Mame.ini file and change it from Mouse 0 to Mouse 1. That will allow Mame to see it.
For the second issue, does it move up and down but not left/right?

Neither... it's as if the computer doesn't recognize it at all. I haven't tried restarting the computer yet with the trackball plugged into the PS2 port. I'll try that when I get home.

The trackball must be plugged into the mouse PS/2 port when the computer is booted. On the fly changing of mouse and trackball on the PS/2 port will usually not work and may damage the computer.

Yeppers, BobA is correct as usual. Change your Mame.ini file and have that plugged in when you boot and you'll be set.

I have the very same trackball and it would not work on a couple of dell pc's which I have, It would work on an old machine with ps2 connection on the motherboard but not the dells addon port.
It also would not work with a ps2 to usb adaptor, I had to purchase an active ps2 to usb convertor for the dell to see it as mouse.
I assume that the trackball is generic ps2 protocol and not like some ps2 mice which are dual ps2/usb protocol which work with the simple adaptor.
Summing up, save yourself anymore hassle and buy an active ps2 to usb convertor and plug into a usb port, job done.
Rob
Edit: just read you hadn't it plugged in at bootup, try that first, might work but didn't for me. If it does happys days, if not active converter will sort you out

Re-started and changed the .ini file. Everything is working! :)
How do I change the trackball settings from opposite directional movement (i.e. roll up moves arrow down and vice versa)?
Or, is that how it would be preferred for MAME?
Thanks again everyone!
