I picked up my first PS2 a few months ago for Goodwill for $7.99. After cleaning the laser and digging up the component cables I had in a box, I started reviewing this list to see what is cool as far a shmups go: http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sony/ps2/the-playstation-2-ps2-shmups-library (http://www.racketboy.com/retro/sony/ps2/the-playstation-2-ps2-shmups-library)
I now have Ibara running in my Tate cab for the first time ever! 25" CRT.

I am wondering what other arcade ports (tate or horizontal) are either exclusive to the PS2 or just great on the PS2. Anything on this list make the top of your list?

I ended up adding the PS2 mostly to do KADE testing and I have to say gameplay is slick!

Gradius V is PS2 exclusive, I think. Also, The Raiden Project (PS1) is the best way to play Raiden II outside the arcade pcb.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll have to see if I can find Raiden PRoject and Gradius. Last time I saw Raiden project it was like $50 at my local retro game store.
I found Metal Gear solid 2 for a few bucks and played it a bit with a gamepad. I really liked MG on the PS1 I had forever ago and found the updated graphics refreshing. The additional polygons over the ps1 brought detail to a really annoying area:

R-Type Final is fun. Don't think it has a rotate mode, though.

Snake's mullet is terrible! On the PS1, it wasn't so mullety.

Thanks for the advice. I can move the PS2 to my horizontal cab when needed. I figure R-Type will be horizontal.

+1 on Gradius V. One of the best schmups ever IMO and is mostly the only reason the PS2 gets regular play to this day.

If it's not too much trouble, it would be a help to the community if you would add your findings to BYOAC's WIKI here: http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Using_Consoles_In_an_Arcade_Machine (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Using_Consoles_In_an_Arcade_Machine)

Will do! I'll add the xbox 1 titles too.
I should be looking at the wii more in general...

I've been thinking about getting Raiden Project and Raiden DX for the PS1 but I can't figure out if they will play on my US PS2 without doing some nutty disk swap trick. I looked into getting a PS1 but don't want to mess with anything other than component video.

I love having the older arcade ports with special modes on my tate cab so I've been keeping my eyes open for another one. I scored another PS2 from goodwill on half off day and am getting it wired into my horizontal cab.
I'm looking for Gradius IV and R-Type Final. Anything else specifically for horizontal I should have on the top of the list.
