What I wanna know is can I hook up a original Tron spinner to one of Oscars premade mouse hacks or do I have to replace the optics and encoder wheel with ones from one of his spinner models. The spinner currently has a big ass logic board attatched to it and I don't quite know what to make of it. Lets put it this way... whats the easiest way to get it operational with mame ? Thanks in advance for any ideas. :)

Last I knew, the consensus was that nobody has figured out how to hack the Tron optic board. I have a Discs of Tron one.
I guess the best way would be to use Oscar's "Universal optic board" and his mouse hack, and keep your encoder wheel intact.

There would definitely be some work involved to make a Tron optic board compatible with a mouse or an Opti-PAC. Basically you would want to bypass the voltage comparators (which require +12V per the schematic) and the 24-pin IC. Essentially remove the optics from the circuit and rewire them in such they are pulled hi by a +5V instead of the +12V source. Attached is a schematic of the board, if that helps.
FWIW - My optic board works fine with a Tron spinner. I modded one and here are a couple pics:

Thanks folks, I think I'll try making a new bracket and fitting a new optic board and just leave the encoder wheel alone. Oscar, if I go this route would you be willing to just sell me the optics and wire that goes with it ? Or maybe you know of a good alternitive like a particular brand of mouse or anything that I could steal the optics out of and fit it to my tron spinner. I have your model 1 spinner in my first cab but I got this spinner back when I bought a whole Tron cp mainly for the trigger stick so I might as well use it. :)

Send me an email about this. I think I may have some of my old style optic boards left over from before I switched to the new style.

I just did this successfully, see this thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=41803.0) for details.
Thanks for the schematic Oscar.
