Is there anything special I need to do to run Roms off a CD? ArcadeOS shows the games in the list, but says the Roms are bad when I try to run the game.

Is your mame.cfg or mame.ini file pointing to the roms on the cd?

Are your roms compressed in .zip format or are they all uncompressed, If they are compressed maybe mame is trying to extract them on the cd-rom which it can't because it cannot write to the cd (im not sure about that though but its worth a shot)

The tall short one got it I think (Was I just more politically incorrect?). I remember hearing of people compiling their own to uncompress to the tmp directory so they could run from CD roms in the past. I'm not sure if thats the only trouble though.
(note: Complete hearsay... all my roms are local)

I'm pretty sure that's the problem. Does anyone have any more info about running ROMs from a CD? I think it's trying to unzip the files to the CD since that's where the ROMs are.

Mame does not try to unzip the roms to cd. It unzips them to ram. The ONLY thing that should be on the cd is read-only stuff (roms, artwork, samples). Do NOT run Mame from a cd. It needs to be from the hard drive. Have your mame.cfg or mame.ini point to the rom locations on the cd. Make sure to use the correct drive letter too.
