Title: Sideart done, Sand before clear coat?

Well..I finished one side of my robotron side art  ;D . Before I flip it over and do the other side I'd like to spray on a clear coat.

Do I dare sand my precious side art before I apply the clear coat? What grit? and what clear coat do you recommend? I used shewin williams interior latex for the cabinet. (sorry no pics, no digi-cam).

I'd ask the guys at Sherwin Williams, it's their product and they'd know what's compatible and what's not.

As for sanding, all you likely need to do is to knock the gloss off. I'd try 0000 steel wool or white scotchbrite first.  To keep from ruining your artwork, I'd try it on a piece of painted scrap before trying it on the artwork.

If you used a latex based paint, you probably don't want to use a clear coat in a spray can.  They are usually solvent based, and the solvent may attack the latex.

Your safest choice would be a water based polyurethane.  MinWax makes a good one that comes in gloss, semi-gloss, and satin. For side art, satin is probably the best choice.
