Title: 1up webpage?
Post by: RetroJames on October 25, 2003, 05:29:14 pm
I linked to 1up's site on mine (http://home.earthlink.net/~rotoquad/) to give him credit for influencing my design, but it appears his site has now gone away???

Don't worry it will be back.  See this thread for details:

FYI:  I have run out of bandwidth several times over (thanks slashdot... :P ) and I am in the process of switching to a new webhost.  For some reason my domain registrar is not directing traffic to the new servers yet, and my previous webhost has locked down my account for the rest of the month.  I have tried using a redirect on my account, but it's not working either.  I'm SOL until tech support responds to my email.

You can temporarily reach the site at s88336959.onlinehome.us (http://s88336959.onlinehome.us) but my 1uparcade.com domain should be back up on Nov 1st at the latest, or possibly as soon as tomorrow.  So for your links, just continue using 1uparcade.com.

Thanks

You may also get some bleedover from that new video game site www.1up.com. It's Ziff Davis' new site (that's the company that publishes EGM, GCW, GMR, and a few other mags whose acronyms I can't immediately recall.) Ten bucks says they've started up this new site as a replacement for the languishing www.gamers.com

So they're the ---daisies--- that took that domain!  >:(  >:(  >:(  1up.com was my first choice, but wasn't available, and seemed someone was just sitting on it for a long time....last time I looked, 1up.com was a job recruiting site...  :P

Another day, another webhost...the free 1&1 account I switched over to has had problems getting the name servers working, and it's been 3 days since I switched to them.  No replies to my support emails at all.  I'm going to assume they have no interest in helping me since it's a free account, and get a real account at a different provider.  For $11.95 I'm getting 1.8 gigs of storage, 35 gigs bandwidth, and a free domain.  We'll see how this one works...

Also, I'm in the process of transferring my domain from the discount no-name registrar I got it from, to Network Solutions.  NetSol has had much better support and a much easier to use control panel for configuring my other domains.  You get what you pay for I guess...but at least NetSol is honoring my remaining years on the domain, and giving me an additional free year extension for switching!

...Hope to have all this resolved this week.

I've written to the 1and1 folks about a half dozen times since starting my free account (for questions and some techsupport). All but once they responded within the first 24 hours, and the other time it took 3 days (but they were really appologetic about the delay).
Who's the other provider, out of curiousity?

1UPArcade.com is back online!  (It only took 3 days...jeez)  Point your links there and it's good to go.

My new account (the 35gig one) is at www.midphase.com (http://www.midphase.com).  They have some pretty good prices, lets see how good their service is...

Keep us posted!

I have http://www.augustatheatre.com hosted at DreamHost ($9.95/mo, free domain, 200 MB storage, 20 GB/mo bandwidth) and was getting ready to set up my own domain there, as I've been pretty happy with their service, responsive staff and management tools.  (See http://www.dreamhost.com/shared/comparison.html for more info.)  But I'd like to know how midPhase does...

I have my domain hosted at 395hosting.com

It gets its name from the price $3.95 a month, or $39 a year. I think I paid a setup fee to register the domain.

Tech support is great. 100Mb storage, 1Gb bandwidth.

Includes most of the bells and whistles: FTP, SMTP, POP, cgi, mySQL.

And I'll let everyone know as soon as I have some content you can look at!!

oh yeah, I would have posted in that "hey 1up are you gettin the /. effect?" thread but it was locked for some reason? (i missed the ending of it...)

Oddly, it ended in a massive Linux vs Windows battle.
