Title: Looking for Hi res pictures of Galag CP for tracing
Post by: patrickl on October 21, 2003, 09:30:33 pm
I'd like to vectorize a Galaga control panel, but the pictures I can find are all too low quality to trace well enough. Maybe someone here has a Galaga machine and is willing to take some close up's?

I'm looking mainly for a closeup of the lead ship (on the front side of the panel) and of the 3 pictures in the "instruction area".

I traced a scan from a cocktail cabinet CP, but that picture was really bad (so I basically wasted my time on that). It was Hi res, but someone made that artwork of a scaled down ship clip art and forgot to scale the linewidth with size. The lines are way to thick. The text and icons for the buttons I already have from that though.

First, take a look at this thread: http://www.arcadecontrols.org/yabbse/index.php?board=13;action=display;threadid=12580

I do have a file at home now that has just the ship in Adobe Illustrator format.  Is that what you need, or do you want the red, white and blue background as well?

Yes I saw that other thread and the vector file for the side art and marquee. It's pretty good (allthough I think it could use some cleaning up)

However, I'm looking for the Control Panel. When I looked at the side art images I realized how much detail there is in the ships on the control panel. The scans I have lack all this detail. Right now I'm even unsure about the color of the blue background :P

So far I have this:

I traced this from a hi res scan of a cocktail cabinet, but as you can see the original is incorrect (the lines are too thick)

This one is a bitmap I constructed from several images I found (I have a better picture, but I though I'd better needed to compress it a bit to show it here) I also see now that I made the ships "crosseyed" (I mirrored half of the ship so I need to mirror the right eye back) Well I can fix that, but really I need a better file than this to trace it properly. Now I'm just messing around with bitmaps and it just wont work in large prints.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately those aren't what I'm looking for either. Allthough you remind me that I was planning to use that japanese picture for cleaning up of the instruction image for the ship being captured on the "upright" control panel.

I'm looking for a picture of the control panel of an upright galaga cabinet (or cloes-ups of bits of it). Thing is I have looked everywhere already and found gazillions of pictures, but all are unusable. So, I'm hoping that someone has a Galaga cabinet somewhere and that they can take a few pictures for me.

The best picture I found so far is the one on http://www.arcadecollecting.com/caga/unclean/ (this is a cocktail control panel and it has the picture I traced with thick black lines) I used this image to clean up another picture of the "galaga upright control panel" (mostly the texts and icons) Since this picture lacks the ship and a detailed view of the the green and red ribbon along the sides, I hope someone can take a picture of those two items (ship and ribbon) so I can recreate the whole control panel as vector art.

And while the're at it maybe also a picture of the bezel ;)
