Anyone have an old pentium minimum working laptop that you'd give away? Well, I'd pay S&H of course.
-
Define "old pentium minimum working". I have a ton of old computers around here, I'll see if I have anything working that will meet your needs (I've been trying to unload most of this crap for a while now).

Are they laptops though? If you have more than one, I'd take one too. ;)

Some are laptops, not sure if they still boot and stuff though (they will be tested before I ship anything). Tell me the kind of specs you are interested and I'll see if I can smack something hard enough to make it work. ;)

I'd really preffer if it's at least 50mhz. If it's less than 25mhz I don't want it. It would be nice if it's 75mhz or better, but that's not COMPLETELY necessary.
Thank you!(since sirpoonga asked first, he should probably get first dibs, so I'll take what's left ;D )

Have you tried out any of them yet? ;D

Needs to be a minimum of a pentium class and it has to work. Working as in it boots (doesn't have to come with OS), hd is working screen is working.
I'd prefer a color screen.
I love my 486 laptop I got form eightbit BUT I need to run 98 for a new idea I have for a laptop. The 486 won;t install 98 for some reason.
-
I dug around my house. Found 4 laptops, tested 2, broken. I'll test the other two once I dig up a power cord for them.
-
:o you had 4 laptops laying around that you weren't aware of??? I could use an old one to play all my old dos games on--just a 486 or low end pentium would do it--let me know if you have any left after everyone else snags one ;D

What software do you want to use that will run on a 486, but requires windows 95? The only software I am aware of that runs on 98 and not on 95 are the latest directx drivers, and IE versions, neither one of which you would want to try to run with a 486 processor.
Only thing I can think of is maybe something involving one of them PMCIA USB cards or something?
-
You have it backwards. I said 98 WON'T install on the 486. Hence why 95 is on it. And my new project idea requires a dll that is for 98 and newer.

id really be intrested in buying/reciving an old computer that can run mame and other emulators of old laptops. it would be the heart of my cab, and id gladly pay shipping to take it off someones hands.
-
Well, it seems like none of them want to boot at the moment, and I don't have the time or energy to try and fix them right now. :-[ Oh well, sorry guys.

Got any old desktops?

Yes, but none that I'm willing to give away for free.

A laptop would not make a good cabinet machine. Unless you had a powerful one and hooked it up to an external monitor. LCDs don't like all the weird resolutions mame can dish out.

Not to mention, almost all fairly old laptops have screens that get all blurry when things move fast, so most games wouild be nearly unplayable.
