Anybody know of a program I can try out for free that can open vector images? So many people have gone through the trouble of vectorizing images, I'd like to use some of them.

You can download a trial version of Adobe Illustrator from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/main.html).
Hope you're not on dialup. It's over 80MB for Windows and nearly 140MB for Mac.
Don't know of any others sorry. Maybe some of the art gurus will have some more ideas.

Read a little about the Gimp here. I was able to get it to open the EPS files.

I know about the GIMP. It's the only program I use for editing graphics. I've tried opening eps files with it, and it never would work :( . Maybe I'll try it some more and see if I can get it to work.
Maybe I'll download that demo. I download at around 200kb/s, so it shouldn't take too long ;)

as previously suggested gimp for the eps files.
I guess ghostview could
sketch (dunno if it's ported to windows)
depending on wich illustartor version and how the file was saved acrobat is also abble to oppen ai files.

Okay, I got the Gimp to work with EPS files. I have a question though, does the GIMP rasterize the image when I open it? Just wondering, because if I enlarge it a lot, it gets blurry. Just wondering, so I know if it's a setting I've messed up or anything.

Yeah, if I could get this format to work in photoshop that would be cool. I don't have illustrator and I've been wanting to make some cpo and marquees from the vector library.

Sodipodi its called, nifty, linux and win, even uses those svgs Jakobud likes

You can - just remember to rasterize with 600dpi or more depending on your final plot size. Of course, a vectorprogram would be much more powerful if you need to make some changes to the graphics.
