Title: Happ Marquee Retainer...seems kinda odd
Post by: soslo on October 17, 2003, 02:39:18 pm
Here is the link:

I am the proud owner of 20' of this stuff...but it seems a little odd I guess. I'm not quite sure how to use it. I mean, I could just screw it down to the cab so that it pinches the plexi on...but I was hoping some something a bit more...professional than that. Any ideas? or am I just using this stuff wrong?

Nope that's right...

Just drill holes into your marquee top and bottom and the plexi is "pinched" between teh wood and the retainer.

It looks really good when applied.  I used gold screws to screw it down.

You aren't saying "drill holes into your marquee" are you?
Just in case... You drill holes in the top of the cabinet & in the speaker panel...
See picture...
It's the side view of that area...
Brown = Cabinet wood
Black = Retainer
Red = Where screws go
Light Blue (cyan) = marquee

tmasman - right, I am not actually going to drill into the marquee ;]

I would love it if the reatiner was angled like your picture...but in reality, it is more like this:

yeah... They did that so it would work with just about any angle...
Me?
I'd rather find some window trim @ HD & use that...
It's got more of a right angle to it.
That, or the alluminum angle they have...
I haven't used it yet, but it looks like it would work pretty well.

Oops... yea, I meant marquee retainer, not the marquee itself!

Sorry about that!

Would it look just as good to go to a hardware store and get a long metal angle-piece?  People say that stuff is expensive as heck to ship, and it looks like it's pretty close.  (just needs a few custom holes drilled in it)

I got two alu-angles for this - but luckily I had someone who could make these for me. If you get a long metal-angle, go for it!

Better, actually, IMO.  This has been discussed numerous times, too.  Check out some of these old threads.

I'm sure there are many more threads on using aluminum angle for a marquee retainer because it is a pretty common topic/question, those are just the first three that popped up on my search.
