Title: Wells Gardner k7000 degaussing issue???
Post by: mandobear on November 01, 2012, 12:01:29 am
My roommate stored his full stack guitar speaker cabinet right next to my arcade rig and was left there for a few days. Naturally my 25" wells gardner k7000 screen became discolored so after some research I went with the corded drill method and for the most part the colors went back to normal except that all the green is now red and all the reds are practically black. The drill method does nothing to fix this but I have noticed however that when I tilt the monitor downwards the colors come back to normal towards the bottom of the screen but go back to the crappy colors when I put the monitor back up.
What can be done to fix this problem? Is a degaussing wand my solution although the drill can't do it?

repair the degauss circuit of your monitor which it seems is not functioning

(buy a replacement thermistor to start, as perhaps yours has gone bad)

if necessary check/replace the other components in the degauss circuit also. there wont be many to check

finally check the degauss coil itself (the wire surrounding your monitor screen edge) for damage/short circuit

alternative solution: buy a manual degauss wand/coil on ebay. however i have never used one so cant comment on effectiveness. i found some instructions though (for coil... no idea if method is same for a wand):

Hold the coil out in front of you and switch it on. Approach the middle of the picture tube as you swing the coil around in a small circle. Wipe it across the face of the tube in slowly widening circles. Take about five circles to get out to the outside perimeter of the screen and back away from the screen slowly as you continue to make big circles. When you have backed up a couple of feet and you are no longer effecting the picture, shut the coil off.

you need a proper degaussing coil to get your monitor back the way it should be.

Try this one.  It works well and is relatively inexpensive.  You can shop it out for even less.
