Title: Wiring multiple wires to one Ipac input?
Post by: ItzMR2u on October 13, 2003, 12:20:36 pm
I am trying to wire in some instances 3 wires to one up or down or whatever connection on an Ipac.  My problem is getting 3 wires into the Ipac slot is not really working well.  If anyone else is doing something like this how are you finding it best to accomplish this connection?  Are you soldering the wires together or are you using some type of barrier block that allows multiple wires to filter into 1 wire if there is even a device like this available.  Any advise would be appreciated.

Daisy chaining will help.  Run a length of wire from your encoder to the first destination.  Then from there to the second and so on.  It'll have the same effect as stuffing all the wires into the connector at the encoder.

Duh  ??? My little brain didn't even bother to go that route.  Seems so logical now that I think about it.  Thanks

wire taps are your friend.

Wire taps work great.

Otherwise yeah, daisy chain will work.  Also taking the three and soldering them onto one wire.

If you don't have wire taps or can't get them for your gauge of wire, you can also carefully strip a little bit of insulation off of the middle of a wire (even if it's already connected), and wrap the stripped ends of your other wires around the bare section.  A bit of solder and some electrical / liquid electrical tape, and it's a very nice sturdy connection.

You can also crimp the ends of several wires into a metal wire cap and add a dab of solder to keep them inside.  I did this when I had goofy things like 7-wire junctions in my ground loop.

I wonder...   has anyone tried stapling aluminum foil to the underside of their CP, and connecting the foil to ground so they only have to run little 2-inch wires from their switches to the foil?  I wonder if it would be difficult to solder to?  It would be similar to the way the entire metal case in a car is electrically connected to the negative pole of the battery, so electrical components need only have a positive wire and be bolted to the chassis.

Hmmm. I dunno - foil tears pretty easily, but if you were physically stapling the exposed wires in with metal staples, it might work out okay. Though I have to say, that sounds like more work than just daisy-chaining the grounds to one another to begin with. Cool idea, though.

You could also use a short terminal switch, and bring a wire coming from the I-pac to the terminal switch, then the three wires going into the other side of the terminal switch.  I'm pretty sure wire taps would work great also.  Both of these are really simple and are extremely easy to figure out.
         -Good Luck

You could put the three wires from buttons and one wire to the i-pac in one wire nut.  Just screw it on.
