Post by: repetto74 on October 27, 2012, 03:55:18 pm
Hi Guys,

I have a noob question concerning CRT monitors for a mamecab

What is the CRT monitor specs for the best experience with mame emulator+frontend??

CGA? VGA? SVGA?
Shall it be at 15khz or higher??

I am just trying to dig out a good CRT 25" monitor for y Mame machine ;)
Thanks
Rick

There are a lot of options, but just make sure that if you use a CRT that you find a way to display your games in their native resolution.

SVGA isn't really that important for MAME.  It's nice to have, but there are very few games that you'd be playing in a MAME cab that support it.

Ok my question then is :

With a SVGA CRT monitor and an arcade VGA videocard, shall I be able to display most of the Mame games in  their native resolution? Is SVGA 15khz output? My concdrn is too know what would be the result on screen...

Which SVGA monitor are you referring to?  If it can ONLY do SVGA then it can't display 15khz.  Do you have a specific model in mind?  Let's start from there...
