Title: Me + Xbox + Ultimarc Adaptor, What am i doing wrong?
Post by: JoKu on October 24, 2012, 11:25:10 pm
I've tried going through search and google before humbly asking for help. Recently i've purchased the

Ultimarc JPac Adapter
Xbox MULTI FEQ AV Adapter
and the Controller Adapter

I'm trying to run the Xbox1 with XBMC on my Gauntlet Legends Medium Resolution Monitor with all jumpers removed and this is the picture i get. The Jpac has an orange light at the "SYNC IN" section.

Is this a hardware issue? Is this a setting thing in the xbox im missing? (its at NTSC 4:3) I don't have this Frosty Bios i *JUST* heard about...is that needed with my adapter? I only got this imagine by tweaking the "H HOLD" knob

After thoughts:

Monitor:
NeoTec NT-2701 (Medium Resolution)

JPAC says it can do 25khz

*Maybe i should have tried the 15khz Adapter even though i'm passing it through the JPAC on a MED RES Monitor.

*Tried the Frosty VGA bios, no luck.

*JPAC "SELF TEST" light always on...using one of those GREEN little "USB to PS/2" adapter at the end because i accidentally ordered " PS/2 to USB"...don't think that interferes with any power fluctuation.

The JPAC only passes video.  The jumpers select what video it's willing to pass.  This is to avoid inadvertently sending video through to your monitor that it can't handle (which can, under some circumstances, break the monitor).  The JPAC can't do any video format conversions - you have to provide video compatible with the monitor.

The stock XBox software is definitely going to run at 15kHz (standard res).  Common hacks also support 31kHz (VGA - compatible with most computer monitors).  25kHz (medium res) is really only used in the arcade monitor world, so you'll definitely have to configure it do to that, if it even supports it.  You'll definitely need non-standard firmware on your XBox to do this.  It won't work with a normal TV or computer monitor at this point.  It will only work on medium res arcade monitors (and the uber rare, typically old, computer monitors supporting 25kHz).

The image looks like exactly what I'd expect from trying to put standard res (15k) on a medium res (25k) monitor.

I have no idea if XBMC supports 25k video.  I doubt it.  The hardware may not even be capable of it, though it probably is.  A suitable resolution would be something like 512x384 if you have that as an option.

Please post your resolution settings in the MS dash (I think changing this stuff in XBMC works too).

I'd guess you'd need to have 480p, 720p, and 1080i all unchecked with widescreen and letterbox disabled.

I've never tried your exact setup so I might be talking out my tailpipe.  I do know that I trust Andy's hardware so the issue is likely in setup.

Actually i haven't changed it in the MS Dash itself, just in XBMC. I degraded everything higher than standered. This is most likely due to my Med Res Monitor, i knew the day i found out what a med res monitor was i knew i had trouble on my hands. I appreciate all and any feedback im getting. I somehow feel as though if this were 15khz monitor this would be over by now, however the jpac says it supports 25khz....

I'll try to change the settings  the ms dash and report back within a few..
