Title: Newbie - Need help with Sony 24" Wega TV
Post by: ita47 on October 20, 2012, 11:38:19 pm
This is my first build so I am new to all this stuff but I am learning. I am converting a Pole Position cabinet into a Mame Cab. I purchased a Sony 24" Wega TV Model KV24FS120 off of Craigslist for $30 to use as my monitor. I would like the tv to turn on and select the correct input when power is applied like a true arcade monitor does. Will this tv do that? I know there is a service menu on this tv but I don't know how to access it, and even if I did I wouldn't know what to change. Can anyone point me to a service manual for this model or tell me what I need to change? Are there any other modifications I should consider?

My other question relates to the connections from the computer. I currently have a BFG Nvidia GeForce FX5200 128Mb AGP video card with VGA and 4 pin S-Video output. What are my best options for connection? Should I just use an  S-Video cable and connect it that way? Or is there a better option. I want the best arcade image I can get, but I don't want to spend a fortune either.

That TV is perfect for a perfect native resolution classic arcade picture *if connected properly*.  S-video will be crap, you probably can't anything but 480i out of that port.  For everything you need to know about connecting it properly and configuring MAME correctly for it, start reading here:

As far as the TV turning on when power is supplied, you'll have to work on that.  You should be able to find the service menu for that model on google.  I've been into that service menu but I haven't tried getting it to do what you're asking.

What I'm planning to do is keep the TV plugged in and wire the power button to a computer controlled relay.  This would actually be better, as you can program the computer to turn the TV on AFTER the front end is loaded.  That way, you don't have to look at a bunch of BIOS and Windows screens.

Also, the TV will normally start up in whatever input was last used; at least when it remains plugged in, not sure how it will behave after having power cut for a period of time.

I just picked up a Audio Authority 9A60 transcoder hopefully this one will work. I haven't received it yet. I have read through the link suggested and will give it a shot when I get the transcoder.

Nice.  If you have any questions about that stuff specifically, post it there.  Trying to keep it all in one place.
