Title: NOTICE!!..GGG one and two player buttons...info that could save you some time...

The GGG player buttons are nice.  The zzippy switches are pretty good.  The only problem is the printing is exactly 90 degrees from "normal" Happ one and two player buttons.  So, when I mounted them in my CP, replacing Happ, I had to rewire 4 wires.  Also, since the switches are pointed 90 degrees, they had to be bent to clear the neighboring buttons. 

This probably won't be a problem for those of you who are just building a CP, but if you're looking for player buttons, just be aware...

Here's the bottoms.  Notice that the Happ button on the end and the GGG EI2 buttons have switches that are perpendicular to the new user buttons:

Where is that $.25 button from? I didn't see it on GGG and since the switch is "normal" I assume it's not from Randy.

That's a standard Happ black competition with a vinyl rub-on.

If your start button wasn't in the middle of a row you wouldn't have a problem.

The red pill is the exit to the Matrix.

The blue pill keeps you in the Matrix.

Actually, I wouldn't have a "problem" if a.) I was building a panel from scratch or b.) the button followed the standard orientation of every cherry-switch button I've used.  The one and two player buttons that were swapped were Happ and they were oriented the same way.

Not a big deal, except my wiring was very well planned and very neat.  I'm sure it was just an oversight during printing.  RandyT may want to ask the vendor to change it.

If your start button wasn't in the middle of a row you wouldn't have a problem.

Not sure if this is a cut on admin buttons, but I have none.

I got from left on top row:

$.25, One Player, Left Mouse, one player 4-way joystick, A (parellel), B (parallel), Right Mouse, Two Player, $.25.

No admin on my panel, thank you very much.  Using shifted keys.

Buttons are round, turn them whatever way works...
My black player imprinted buttons are from Paradise and are aligned the same direction as the ones you got from GGG. Kinda makes one rethink the "standard" thing...

But, the obvious (and ignorantly so) thing you fail to realize is that when the button is printed, it is locked in it's direction, so the button is no longer "round" in a sense, but requires a certain orientation.  So, you would have to leave the player button much more room to accommodate the orientation of the switch...much more than I'd like. As well, the switch cannot be reversed, so that's another way it's locked into a single direction.

So, I'd like to see your 6-button plan with all the button switches pointed sideways.  I mean if you *HAD* to put these buttons side by side, your 6-button cluster would be almost 4" wider than is normal.

Yeah, because logic says to keep a button that is interfering with neighbor buttons mounted in the same spot. Move the button and remap your inputs. Because you know, it's not a custom control panel or anything...

It's so obvious, but you failed to realize that the button plunger can be removed and rotated 180 degrees. Giving you 2 directions to mount these buttons.

Ahh.  Very good.  But, it still ties the orientation exactly perpendicular to original Happ printed user buttons which was the OP topic.

Yeah, I bent them.  No big deal.  I just wanted to let people know that the Happs are oriented differently.  My wiring is tight and moving a button requires some un-bundling, so I didn't want to do that.

Otherwise, they're nice.

Hope they last better than those crapp Happ printed ones.

Bending of the terminals, if performed carefully, has no effect upon the operation of the switch.

You could also just swap the button position with one of the outside buttons in that group and it wouldn't be an issue.  Most folks will group the player start buttons in the center of the panel by themselves, so orienting the terminals away from each of the others works out fine in that type of layout.

FWIW, this type of thing is not limited to mixing buttons from different vendors -- it also happens for buttons from a single vendor.

I have start buttons from the same vendor that are printed at different rotations.

Always a good idea to allow for that when spacing out buttons with graphics.

And, no, there is no "standard" that I have ever seen.

As I've said in other threads I actually like having the admin buttons on my CP, but I am feeling the peer pressure to change that up when I ever get around to rebuilding the CP.  They really just don't bother me...  I've got plenty of real estate on my CP, they're black buttons on a black background, I'm not attempting to replicate an arcade machine 100%, it just strikes me as a "no big deal" sort of thing.

Since I use a couple of them rarely I can see simplifying it a bit, but I would probably keep the exit and pause buttons.  I want that functionality, I'm not ashamed of it and I don't feel the need to hide it as a shift sequence.   :dunno

I really don't have issue with Admin buttons.  The youngest player of my cab is 4 and she can't reach across the CP to use the shifted buttons (which is by design).   The only reason I didn't put any on was when I went to put them in (through the bezel), the kids had already adjusted to the shifted sequence and drilling 1 1/8" holes through 3/8" plexi didn't seem right.  :P

For the cab I'm building for my in-laws, there will be an escape and mute button on the admin panel because they rarely can remember to put batteries in their wireless mouse on their PC, so....  It's a Knievel Evolution ripoff.

I continually have to show the wife which buttons are for volume and next/previous song (Mamewah), so admin buttons have their place.

In my experience, 1/2up buttons almost invariably are at the top of the panel, with a coin up next to them. That means it would be prudent for the graphic to be in line with the switch.
