I have been working on a new cab design on and off for the past month and I want to throw it out there for you guys to critique. It's going to be a really small (but completely playable) cab running a 60-in-1. Dimensions are approximately 16"x16"x12.5". I plan to start cutting tomorrow, but before I cut I just want to know... Whaddya think?

I like it. I assume the square on the front is the speaker grill?

Are the sides 3/4"? They look a bit over thick for the size. Perhaps 1/2" is worth a look. Other than that it looks sharp.

Yes that is 2.5" speaker and grill

Yea everything is 3/4" combicore. I need it to be heavy enough to not move around when someone is pulling and tugging on the joystick. Rule #1 when I was designing this cab is that is has to actually be playable... ;)

Not bad. Only real comments/critiques are:
1) Will there be enough space where the speaker is located to house a joystick?
2) I'd try to make the speaker location flush with the front in the contruction.

You could add weight at the end by making a closed cell in the bottom of the case you can fill with sand, like they do in some loudspeakers, then you could use a more proportional wood thickness

I don't care for the speaker in the front either. Both because of appearance, and the sound will all be coming from the left.
(I know donkey kong was like that, but the speaker was at your waist, away from your ears)
If the cab is on feet of any kind, consider having it underneath the cab pointing down.
The one in my megatouch is pointed down and sounds pretty good.
Since the speaker won't be pointed at you, it won't be as directional.
Are you centering the joystick or putting it to the left?

There is no space.... also, the only t-molding they make in 1/2" thickness is black and white (blech)\... 3/4" panels have a lot more t-molding options.

Downfiring will sound bad because the speakers are so small... I don't have any space for anything larger than 2.5" - 3" speakers.. The first cab will have a centered joystick... When I move the joystict to the left on the next cab the speaker will have to move to the right.

I just meant that right now based on the 3D rendering it sticks out a bit and it would look better if it didn't.

What about putting a speaker or pair of them in the top of the cab? Granted they'll be aimed away from the player...

OK I moved the speaker to the bottom, under the control panel. As I was going to cut yesterday I was double checking measurments and realized the monitor hole was too small... I was working off the dimensions of the screen and not the monitor itself... so the cab will need to be a little bit taller than the original rendering... appx 17.5" tall now. I captured some video so you can get a better look at the cab from different angles...
