Just bought this cabinet on Craigslist. I like everything about it except for the massive hole for the coin door. I'm just worried I'll never find a door that will fit and look ok for a decent price. Obviously I can always cut a new panel, but I'd like to avoid that if possible. Does anyone know if I might have any options?
The dimensions of the hole are roughly 21 X 12 and a half. Any thoughts???

Correction, just went down to the garage to measure, and I corrected the measurement above. It's roughly 21" X 12 and a 1/2".

I found something so close. It says it is measured "20 1/2" tall by 10" wide". I haven't been able to find something exactly that measurements.
I hope you can find something and I will try to keep this in mind while searching around.

This could be it, but you might prefer buying a different cabinet rather than getting the Over/Under Wide Bill Validator Door w/Cashboxes and Full Metal Enclosure (http://na.suzohapp.com/coindoors/40200000.htm) new from SuzoHapp for $266.50 + shipping.
Opening size appears to be 12.19" x 20.58".

You might be able to post on KLOV's Videogame - Wanted (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12&order=desc) Forum to see if anyone has one. Didn't see anything during a quick glance at the Videogame - For Sale (http://forums.arcade-museum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11&order=desc) Forum.

Get a smaller coin door and some black speaker mesh and construct something that fills the hole correctly.
-
I would just mount another piece of wood behind the hole and mount a normal over/under door in that... the cutout would be a cool depth accent to the coin door, which is really the design highlight on the front of most machines.
-
I'd just cut out a panel that will fit in that hole and make it removable. There's no need for a coin door on a MAME machine.

Yep. Change the opening to fit whatever door you want.

I'd personally test my luck with this. If there is a slight gap, just narrow the hold a tad with some wood or metal stripping. Might make it a little more flashy too.

There's no need for a coin door on a MAME machine.
There is when you want to control your kids and how much they use the machine. I can give my boys $5 in quarters and when they run out, they're done.
I have a feeling it'll become a college fund as well.
-
Doesn't work if your kids have a console.
-
I put coin doors on every machine I make. They look wrong without them. Particularly lined up next to other machines that have them.

Another idea:

This makes sense to me. I think it would look nice if done properly.

I appreciate all of the ideas for sure! And PL1...That's definitely the one! HOWEVER, now that I see all of these opinions, I'm thinking why compromise? That wide HAPP bill validator door will fit perfectly, but is that really what I want it to look like? I'm not sure I do. It's wicked expensive too. Maybe I could find it cheaper, but I'm kind of on a different train of thought now.
I'm thinking of a steel plate (maybe 1/16") cut to bolt over the entire opening. It'll have cutouts for a 4-player coin door and an access door below it laid out and spaced like a dedicated MK2 cabinet, (except for the 4-player instead of 2-player coin door). I'll paint the metal plate and the coin and access doors with a fresh coat of black.
Then, do I radius the corners of the plate? Or leave them as sharp 90 degree corners? Do I use a glossy or matte black paint? Textured paint? Also, I say "I", but I don't have the equipment for this. Where can I go to buy this plate and have it cut to my specs? So many questions!
I think it's a good plan, but I need to have it cut! I used to know a guy who worked at a sheet metal company. He cut some special pieces for me for a couple of animatronics projects years ago, but I wouldn't even know how to get ahold of him now. Hmmmm....
-
I'd put a fillet on the corners of the plate and then recess the plate in the door.

Look at post 48 in the following thread

New front panel that opens with coin door and speakers ;D
-
You have found what it needs, why reinvent the wheel?, You could put a stainless plate over the bill accepter hole I spose.
-
I agree.
I would just get that used one that was posted. $35 plus shipping and you will have the real coin option. It looks like it needs a second mech, but that should be easy to get.
I like the idea of a little metal plate over the bill validator slot. That or just build a glory hole on the front of your cabinet. That way you can still have your bills validated when you play. >:D >:D >:D
Its you cab though, and your idea isn't bad either. I'd keep the corners sharp. I bet that black "Hammered finish" paint would do a good job getting that coin door feel as well. Another idea, if you don't think it would be too much, is put a steel tread plate covering the entire front panel. I don't know if you were planning on covering up those other two holes as well.
-
I bought a megatouch with the bill validator missing.
I cut a plate out of textured black abs plastic and mounted it from behind using the bolts that were already there to use the validator.
It looks pretty darn professional and cost next to nothing.

The problem is that that ISN'T the right one. The $35 one is the "mid-width" and isn't big enough, so I'm not going with that one. The one that's the right size is the "wide", and that's $266 new.
I agree, I think hammered finish would look great, and I do think keeping the corners sharp is the way to go. I don't want to cover up the other holes on the front because if you look closely, you'll see that those are cut perfectly and in the right place to mount my 2 HAPP recoil gun hoses! Woot!
I'm thinking if I can find a sheet metal company to sell me the right size plate pre-cut, then I can cut the holes myself with my trusty jigsaw. Yeah it's not the ideal way of doing it, and yeah I'll burn through a few blades, but once the doors are mounted it'll look perfect from the outside.

Gotcha! Didn't see that they were different models.
