Title: AimTrak - are they any good?
Post by: chucklepie on October 09, 2012, 12:32:09 pm
Hello,
I'm thinking about getting an aimtrak gun but watching a few videos has kind of put me off:

1. It only works in very dimly lit rooms
2. You can't really use the trigger in automatic firing mode (keeping your finger down) because the calibration kicks in after 5 seconds.

Is this true? for 2 I'd have thought this flaw would be quite obvious from the beginning and calibration would be done by pressing multiple buttons, allowing the time for calibration to be changed or disabling calibration option from the aimtrak windows interface - are there options for doing any of these?

Thanks for any help.

Neil.

I've used them just a bit, and I've been impressed.  I wasn't in a dimly lit room, didn't see any issues there.  As far as the calibration, I think that the gun has to be held vertically along with the 5 second hold.

I found the manual, I don't think you point upwards, but you can change the time for calibration, so I guess it depends how often you need to calibrate...

Mine will be behind smoked glass, though I guess you could mount it outside of the glass below the speakers.

The calibration thing is a non-issue, as you have found out. The plexi thing shouldn't be, either.

The calibration can be changed to any control or the time limit extended or turned off completely if you wish.

Does not need to be a dimly lit room, just no IR source which is shining into the gun, same requirement as the Wii controller.
