Title: How can I get my TV to be on AV channel when I turn it on?
Post by: Cannon Fodder on October 04, 2012, 04:08:36 am
I have used a 21" Samsung CRT television in my cabinet which uses a composite input via a scart adapter. Whenever I power it on it is always on channel 1 and I have to turn it over to the AV channel using the remote control which obviously ruins the illusion of it being an arcade cabinet. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the TV to come on on AV1?

What is the model number? Maybe the TV has a "Hotel Mode"which allows you to setup the default channel and a lot of other stuff.

if i remember correctly it is PIN 8 of your scart connector, you need to supply some voltage to it, in order for your tv to always power on in AV mode. you need to supply at least 4.5 volts, or up to 12 volts -- note: your screen may switch between widescreen, and normal 4:3, depending on the amount of volts you supply to pin 8.
so eg. if 5-7volts causes your tv to go to widescreen, try 10-12volts instead for 4:3...

Exactly, I do that in couple of cabinets and it is working fine.

9.5 – 12V at Pin 8 sets the TV to 4:3 mode
0 – 0.4 V at Pin 16 sets it to Composite mode
1 – 3 V at Pin 16 sets it to RGB mode

But of course, if you have access to the service menu, it could probably be done there as well.

By the way, you should really consider to go RGB if you have a SCART TV. It will be way better than the composite signal.
