Title: Advmenu not working in Groovy Arcade Linux installation. Workaround thread
Post by: ufoufo512 on September 27, 2012, 01:30:16 am
My story so far: Since moving to Archlinux based isos, advmenu hasn't worked for me. It has ended with "Illegal instruction" error. Yesterday evening, I compiled, as suggested in another thread, the AdvmenuPlus from the sources I got from here: http://arcadeforever.forumfree.it/?t=42527183&st=165#entry507735016 (http://arcadeforever.forumfree.it/?t=42527183&st=165#entry507735016) . Using normal ./configure, make, make install. I replaced the existing advmenu binary with the compiled one and it worked.

My current problems are:
1) mame.xml is created on every start up.
2) I also replaced groovymame and groovyume binary with the newest 147 builds with additional fixes. If I use groovymame, I got some unneeded entries in my gamelist in advmenu like: "IDE hard drive". If I use groovyume, I get even more of those like: "C64 standard cartridge". There must be some filtering option not to show these in advmenu, but I don't know what. Does anybody else have this problem and any solution?

My cpu is old 2,4 GHz Pentium IV, if that matters for the "Illegal instruction."

Just a quick note to confirm that I also have the same problem using a 2.4 GHz Celeron. I will be upgrading to a 2.8 GHz P4 soon (motherboard won't take higher spec CPU) but since ufoufo512 has a similar setup I expect that this will not fix the problem. Happy to help out if it makes sense but I'm not very experienced with Linux!
