I wanted to add a video poker to my list of apps in the PC "emulator" but I don't know how to create a .LNK from a DOS file, windows seems to insist on creating a .PIF file.
How do I work around this?
-
Can you create the PIF and then create a shortcut to that?

The new shortcut is still a PIF file
-
I hadn't thought of that ::)
What happens if you change the ROM Extension from LNK, to PIF - does the program launch properly?? (I have not tried it myself).
If so, you may just have to use a separate list for PIFs.
-
Yeah, I though if that but haven't tried it yet. Not thrilled about having to switch emulators though.
Maybe there is a way to create a PIF file for programs that would use a LNK file normally (for example adding a batch file in front of them?)
I'll play with it this weekend.
By the way, is there a "hot key" to switch between emulators or do you have to go in the menu?

Well if you let me know if the PIFs will launch OK, I can make PC lists look for LNK's and PIFS...
'4' by default switches emulators.

would it be possible to add multiple extensiosn in the "ROM EXTENSION" specification? for example one might like to run LNK, BAT, PIF,... Maybe that's what the LNK method was suppose to avoid?
(by the way, I haven't tried PIFs yet, I took my MAME machine apart to replace the keyboard hack with a keyWiz and do some rework. I will try it soon though)
-
I can't seem to get the PIFs to work.
I setup a directory with a link to poker.exe inside (the link is a PIF because poker.exe is a pure DOS program)
I then pointed the ROM path to that directory and changed the ROM extension to PIF.
It works find building the list but when I try to run it I get a run time error with a big long negative number (I can try it again and send you that number if you want) the error "message" is simply "T".
I think that there may be options to PIF files in windows so I'll see if I can play with those.
Also when I run the PIF directly from windows, when the program exits I get a "finished" DOS box on the screen, so I may have to deal with that also.

I had a feeling the PIF's wouldn't launch :(
I'll have a think about what to do...

'4' by default switches emulators.
How about a key for selecting the previous emulator? That would be just as useful!!!
-
Yes it would, I had a test setup with too many emulators and it was a pain to have to go around the loop to get the previous one. (this was only a test though, I don't have that many emulators at the time)
-
what is the shortcut for next emulator? What is the shortcut for QUIT?
Thanks

Next emulator is '4', quit is Escape. Both can be remapped in Control Options > Customise Controls.
Bizzarely, I never even though of adding a 'previous emulator' key...maybe because I only run 3 emulators max. I'll add it some time :)

I thought there was a shortcut key to exit out of Minwah and take the default option (which for me would be exit and shut down)
Thanks, Art

isn't it what the ESC key does?

Not sure what you are referring to in that thread (it is early) ::)
