Title: mamewah: art for PC programs?
Post by: papaschtroumpf on October 10, 2003, 04:30:05 am
How do I add art (snapshot) of the PC program in the "PC" emulator type?
My kid can't read and he relies on the pictures to know what he's launching and I just added several PC games to my vabinet based on the list provided in this very forum.

If the game will run in a Window, you could use good old Alt+PrintScreen, then paste and save...

Failing that I guess you'll have to search the web for a suitable image.

Sorry, I wasn't clear in my original post:

I'm not looking for art, I'm trying to figure out how to get the art I have to show up in mamewah.

I tried naming a jpeg file the same as the name of the lnk file for that game and putting it in a PCART directory on my hardrive, then I pointed the artwork #1 to that directory in the cfg file for that emu.
I expected mamewah to show the graphic on the right (I'm running classic layout) but it only showed the mamewah logo.

What did I do wrong?

Oh I see, sorry.

It sounds like you did everything right - I'll check to see if I can get it to work next week and will post back...

I tried this out, and it worked fine using the snapshot named the same as the PC LNK file - I'm not sure what you did wrong!?

I'll try it again and let you know. Does the art need to be in a specific graphic format? I had a jpeg, not a png, maybe that was the issue?

No either format should work fine.

Correct.  The snapshot in my example was a jpg.  Did you use the extension .jpeg or .jpg?  Either way should work but let me know if .jpeg doesn't work...

I have the new version of Mamewah and Im having the same problem. I put the picture in the same dir as the LNK file with the same name. I tried using .jpg .gif. png .tiff.

I made sure that the path in artwork number #1 was correct. I even made sure that the path was 8 characters or less.

Does the image have to be a certain size?

No, the image can be any size.  The image doesn't have to be in the same folder as the LNK file (although it can be).

All I can think of is that the layout you are using doesn't display Artwork #1.  Maybe it displays a different Artwork # (or #'s)??

It definately works, I just tried my notepad example again...

Once again I am shocked on the fast replay.

I will check that when I get home. My brother just made it and you added it to your site a few days ago. I will check it out when I get home and see if that's the problem.

Sorry for the delay in the update. I checked and he was using artwork #1. I tried everything and was not able to get it to show.

Just as a last resort I created a snaps dir in the same folders as the LNK's. I re-pointed Mamewah to look at that snaps dir for artwork #1 and bam the showed right up. I don't know what I was doing wrong but I'm just happy that it working.

Thanks for the great software Minwah

Glad you got it working...I'm not sure if there is a bug in there, but it does seem to work for me.

FWIW I setup the rom (LNK) path as 'C:\PC', and the snapshot (artwork #1) path as 'C:\SNAP'.  Tho I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't work in whatever folders you want  ???
