Title: VGA to component trouble.
Post by: JOHN HOWARD on September 19, 2012, 04:52:56 am
I'm hoping you guys will be able to help, I'm trying to go from my PC (Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT) to a analog component TV via a VGA to component cable. after some tweaking in Nvidia control panel I get the image below. any ideas on how to get this to work properly?

What TV is it?  The PC is probably outputting 480p instead of 480i.   Your TV might not support 480p.

What resolution are you outputting to the TV?  I think your video card expects you to connect the VGA to component cable to HDTVs.  You can get some videocards to output 480 and below using soft15khz.  Here's a list of compatible cards: http://community.arcadeinfo.de/showthread.php?7925-Getestete-Grafikkarten (http://community.arcadeinfo.de/showthread.php?7925-Getestete-Grafikkarten)

Thanks for your help, instead of buying a new card I bit the bullet and just decided to buy this from the local Jaycar store (Australia's equivalent of radio shack) http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=XC4871 (http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=XC4871)

boot the pc in low res vga mode. f8 during post should bring up the list for it. i spam f8 when i need to get in to it. if it looks good then its cause your res is too high like others have said. my 32in tv does the same thing if its set above 480i.
