I've put together a computer running windows 7 (64b it) and connected it to my TV so that I can turn on an emulator and play it on the couch. I have a xbox 360 controller that I'm using with nestopia that seems to be working properly. However, I also have a tigergames ps/2 usb adaptor that I'd like to use instead but for some reason its like every button is running with autofire. So if I hold down the left D-pad button the my character on the screen moves as if i'm rapidly tapping the left D-pad button rather than holding it down. I'm not sure what I can do to correct the problem. I've tried running nestopia in XP compatibility mode but I'm still running into the same problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

could be hardware or software.
like a setting or perhaps a cracked ground wire or something.
may be the adapter itself though as I never heard of it and am not a fan of 3rd party anything becuase most dont work right outta the box.

See if that is the way windows is reading the input. In Win 7, go do your devices + printers in the start menu. Then find where the gamepad device shows up and right click and go to settings. click on your device and it will bring up a diagram of what you push. see if pushing left shows as a constant press or going on and off repeatedly.
If it shows a constant press as normal, I would switch to FCE Ultra as my NES emulator, see if that works without problems.

Thanks Vigo. I used your method to help troubleshoot the problem and it looks like the controller i was using was the culprit. Its working fine now.
Thanks again!
