Title: DIY marquee lighting
Post by: papaschtroumpf on October 09, 2003, 01:44:28 pm
What's the best way to light your own marquee?
I'm talking homemade cab.
I'm talking cheap, I'm on a budget.

I was thinking a bout a single neon tube a few inches behind the marquee, but my prototype has quite a bit of buzzing and I'd like it quiet.
I also would prefer a low voltage solution.

What have you guys been using? I couldn't find much information out there, it seems that all marquee links are about the graphics (well, those are important too!)

HD should have those kitchen cabinet flourescent light fixtures... for like $10 or so....

just mount it...  they should be acceptable....

or if you want cheaper..... get one of those parts where you can screw a light buld into it... and put 1 or 2 on a scrap piece of wood and just screw it in the marquee light area...

I used a cheap 12" flourscent light fixture from Home Depot.  I think it cost around $12.  I just plugged it into the power strip in my cab.

Spend a few nice summer nights outside catching fireflies.
(well, that would be cheap!)

You can probably use one or two low wattage incandescent bulbs with some tin foil behind them, if you ventilate the chamber a bit with an old PC case fan.  Never tried it though.
