Ok, found a second later the post on building a sawboard.
Now the question. If you bought a good guide clamp (or me, a cheap guide clamp from harbor freight for 20 bucks)...
Couldn't I create a width board. Cut a board the size from the blade to the edge by putting a board up against something thicker, like a 2x4... Then cut down that board effectively making it the width of extra... Then keep that with the clamp. Then you measure the board, slide the clamp next to it... then clamp it down.
Or should I just make a sawboard?

Why not use a table saw with a fence?
If you want fast, exactly equal, consistant cuts, it's hard to beat IMHO.

EDIT DUE TO OP EDIT: Original post mentioned making a "2 foot box" IIRC. OP completely edited the original post while I was typing :angry:, but using a table saw for consistant square cuts is hard to beat.

Sorry about the edit. I posted, then looked at the top and saw my answer.
I don't have a table saw. But this is constantly an issue for me. I'm decent at rough cut stuff and framing... but never got into the finishing. I was hoping to build something my wife would allow in the living room... (stretch I know... but it would be nice)

I'd just make a sawboard. You could make a width board for the clamp. But then you have to clamp that down next to the cut line, then clamp down the guide, then remove the board.
With a sawboard, you just clamp/bolt it down and then make your cut. One easy step.
