Title: Cabinet Switch to turn on computer?
Post by: TJCOMBO on September 06, 2012, 02:23:54 pm
On the top of my JAMMA cabinet is a what I think is called a DPDT switch.  I highly doubt this is the same type of switch that is used to turn on a computer.  I'd like to utilize it for my MAME computer since it is an original cabinet part.  Is it possible to wire it to the computer to turn it off and on?

You just need a momentary push button (such as an arcade button, or test switch button, something along those lines). A lot of cabinets have service/ test switches inside, you could use one of those.

A Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) momentary switch will work fine for turning on a computer and you can also use it to turn on a TV/monitor that won't power up using a smart strip.  Just ignore the normally closed contact on the DPDT switch (Not shown in this Double Pole Single Throw diagram. )

The switch is in green and you add the red wires.

This will not work for latching type switches where you press to connect and press again to disconnect.
