Title: Noisy-Boy Jukebox build
Post by: drone on September 05, 2012, 11:36:28 pm
My first, and likely last, jukebox build :)

I originally intended this to be a wall mount to maximize space, but after multiple drawings/plans in a futile attempt to cram everything in, I settled on a small floor standing configuration.

The major components:

- ELO 15" touchscreen (pulled from a photo kiosk, eBay)
- Foxconn Booksize Barebone System (Newegg)
- PylePro P1001AT Hybrid Pre-Amplifier (online)
- Mission M30i speakers (used, Kijiji)
- Acoustic Profiles 8” subwoofer (used, Kijiji)
- BetaBrite LED (bare display from a technical school, eBay)
- Interfire IF-4VU VU gauge (online)
- AlbumPlayer software

Construction pics to follow (time and interest permitting).

Very nice, how are you interfacing the Betabrite, does the software do all that for you or are you using a script.  I ask as someone else on here was looking to do the same thing.

How much power are you pushing out :)

The nice thing about AlbumPlayer is that there is a free plugin that hooks up the BetaBrite - less work for me. I just needed to create the data cable and install an usb/serial adaptor.

As for power, I'm not sure. Definitely not the bogus "1000 watts" as stated on the amp, but more than enough for me (I picked the amp because it had the Vegas gaudy look I was after, not on the promised output.)

Nice job

+1 on AP. It's really good for touchscreen jukes, and it has the nicest UI out of the box that I've seen.

Just curious, but the pyle amp appears to have a big volume knob, so what's the other silver knob for?

Ah, the dual volume knobs. I was wondering if someone might pick up on that :)

If you notice on one of the previous pics, I am running audio output to a wall plate. I originally didn't want speakers - strictly a wall mount - but changed my mind after the speakers I have running in the gameroom gave just an OK bass response. After deciding on a sub, I also added speakers to the design too. The volume knob is to attenuate the output relative to the other speakers in the gameroom. You can see one of the other speakers above the BreakShot in the pic below, along with the juke prototype.

More construction pics:

- obligatory prime pic
- and paint pic
- perforated sheet metal installed with staples
- the prototype juke/testing of components
- the finished enclosure and the original angle of the speakers brackets that I was unhappy with
- painting the backside of the plexi covers for the BetaBrite
- how the plexi looks installed
- LED installed in enclosure, enclosure supported by chrome curtain rods, looks nice and works well to hide the wires
