Title: Idea of a second monitor
Post by: ShankyMcStabber on September 03, 2012, 04:08:57 pm
I was wondering if anyone around here has ever tried to put a 2nd monitor into their cabinet to use to dynamically display either the control layout or the original control deck of whatever game is being played at the time.

My brother and I had an idea to use an 8" or 10" monitor mounted under the main monitor and call a batch file on each game launch to show the actual control scheme for the game selected.  As this is my first cabinet build/setup I am not sure the feasibility of it.

I've been pondering something similar...

Here's what I did for a friend of mine with his PGA Golf cab.

This is a control deck. You probably meant control panel.

Heh, I'm new to this so give me time and I will get it right.

I love that control layout on the mini-monitor, that is exactly what I am thinking of doing.  Now that I know it is possible, I just need to figure the budget for a monitor.

I just got this monitor last week. I am going to mount it above the TV when the mount arrives from Amazon.

Welcome aboard, Shanky.

Here's a 7" version (http://www.amazon.com/Lilliput-Um-70-Monitor-non-touch-Screen/dp/B000AYHY7I) of the one you linked earlier that some of the pincab builders are using for DMDs.   Power and video are through the USB cable.

Griffindodd uses one in his build (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,121570.msg1289719.html#msg1289719), and P-chan has a larger LCD in his pedestal (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,119683.msg1273262.html#msg1273262).

Edit:  Forgot to include Tony.Silveira's bArcade (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,102665.msg1086963.html#msg1086963).

I'm going to use an 8" Lilliput monitor in my CP to display controls for each game. I use GameEx as a frontend and will run Marquee Magician to display the controls on the small monitor. CPWizard can make .png images of each game's controls and when the game is launched, Marquee Magician will display the image associated with the game. Hopefully I will have everything setup in a week or so. I can post a pic when it's done if u want.

I picked up the 7" Lilliput USB Monitor off Amazon and have it configured now.

I used CPWizard to export the control panel setup for all my games and have Marquee Magician configured to display on the new monitor using Hyperlaunch (I have Hyperspin as my FE).

But I have run into a problem.  When Marquee Magician launches and places the control panel on the 2nd monitor it causes MAME to be minimized forcing me to Alt+Tab to actually play the game.  Obviously this is sub-optimal to an Arcade Cabinet.

Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the problem?  I can post the .ahk that I use to launch MAME if that will help.
