Anyone ever been there before?
The arcades are slowly becoming anything but, so there is no reason to visit them anymore. Barnacle Bill is a place I used to visit at 10AM every morning on the dot as a kid. Now they got rid of all the good stuff..Star Wars is gone, Adams is gone, ROTJ long gone...Turtles..etc. The only one still standing after 23 years is Simpsons, and it looks it. The rest of the arcades on the boardwalk seem to have forgone the games and pinballs and steered more toward ticket machines and coin push games. hardly fun.
Flashbacks is the only place left with real games.
Also curious if anyone knows the owners? I noticed star wars was unplugged and toward the back. When i played it last year, the joy stick was broken so I guess it's been under repair ever since. IF they where looking to sell it, I would think it'd be an easy fix :). would be a great early birthday present :)
later :)

I've been there a bunch of times, and was just there a couple weeks ago. Was disappointed they got rid of their Stargate. They also have a Defender converted into a Robotron, which just seems kind of odd. On the other side is a really great row of pins that are in dire need of cleaning and maintenance.

We stop in there every time we go down -- it really is one of the very few places with older games these days. The wife and I always spend a good bit of time there. There are usually a few games out of commission but that is sort of to be expected.

Sounds like you should buy that Star Wars.

that is the thing about modern arcade owners, they don't seem to take pride in their stuff..anyone here who's really dedicated to the craft have one of their own open? :)

Grew up there. Anyone know if ANY of the arcades are still standing after Sandy? Specifically Lucky Leo's?

Yea I'd like to know this also. From the pictures it looked like Flashbacks and that whole section with the ferris wheel is gone. Lucky Leo's is probably still there, but I bet a ton of water and sand got into that entire place.

Flashback was a total loss, and according to comments on another forum the owner recently stopped carrying flood insurance.
Really sad, because most of the old machines in these places have been there for years. Even if the arcades are rebuilt, its doubtful there will be any classics. Maybe one Ultracade type thing or something.

I grew up there as well. Graduated in `81 from Brick Township High School so I was one of the `lucky` ones ( or old, if you prefer) who saw the rise of video games and home computers from the start. My two favorite hang outs were Lucky Leo's in Seaside or Jenkinson's in Point Pleasant. Ok, so I haven't been home in decades, but it made my heart sick seeing the devastation that Sandy had wrought. Home isn't there anymore. I had hoped to bring my kids there in the next year and show them where I had grown up. Now I don't think there's anything left of my teenaged years for them to explore. I'd also like to point out that the Jersey Shore isn't the one on MTV. Friggin' Bennies, Guido's and Stella's...Just kidding here ;) We made our living catering to the tourists during the summer, but in the winter, the Boardwalk, Island Beach State park, and the few arcades that remained open during the off season, were our playground. I miss Winter the most, as I now live in Florida, and perhaps have been here long enough to have romanticized it in my mind. Lesson to be learned here. Don't hesitate, nothing lasts forever.
