Title: Help me please! Advance MAME is driving me nutz! :~(
Post by: F|end on October 08, 2003, 06:32:28 pm
Hi, for years i whished mame games running fullscreen in my PC monitor because
i can't afford to buy Arcade Hardware right now!
I've spent quite a few hours trying to configure Advance mame and Advance menu to run
as best as possible in my machine, well, i'm no Linus Torvalds  or Bill Gates so i think and
i'm almost sure that i've messed things a bit or something is missing in my configuration.

I hope that someone here has a machine similar to mine, the specs are:

Monitor -> Samsung SyncMaster 750s (i think that it's multisync, is it?)

Graphics card -> ATI All-In-Wonder 128 AGP (Portuguese) running windows at a 1024x768 resolution

CPU -> Pentium 3 @ 733mhz

Memory -> 256mb of ram (i don't know wich type of ram is maybe SDram)

Running Windows Millenium O.S. and i know that it's crappy but i'm too lazy to change it! :P

Well, if someone has the "advmame.rc" properly configured for this type of machine, please send it to me
because i'm desperate with it and also sick of using the turtle version of Mame, that is Mame32...

I already runned a few games in advmame but the image is "shifted" to the left a bit and the resolution it's
similar to a "486 game", very pixelized with no effects, i think that it's a configration problem! :P

I know that this isn't the exact place to expose my doubts but everytime that i tried to say something in
mame.net, i was "flammed" to death!

Thanks in "Advance" lol, i hope that someone was the solution for my dilema!

I will list the steps I used.

-delete all .rc files you have--you will be creating new ones
-get latest advmame package
-unzip advmame into mame directory
-run advcfg and configure your monitor (PC monitor is >30hz)
scroll down list until you see high res vga (unless of course  you know your monitors limits--if so enter them into custom settings)
-configure all the resolutions to your liking (trick is to not be greedy about maximizing screen size but to make sure that the squares shown on the test screens are as close to square as possible)--also center screens
-save and exit--this creates a advmame.rc file with your monitor settings
-then type in at command line "advmame -default" this fills your existing advmame.rc file with the default settings
-then tweak your advmame.rc file according to your setup (i.e. read the documentation)
then type advmame [insert game zip name here]
or configure whatever front end you are using to use advmame.

hope that helps--i didn't get to much into detail as you should be aware of general computer stuff--i.e. dos prompts etc.

by the way, if you are using a pc monitor you should just stick to regular mame--its less complicated. ;D

Setting up AdvMame configs can be a long and tedious process.
I spent a couple of days perfecting resolutions for every game with
my WG arcade monitor, I'd imagine a PC monitor could use it's default
VGA settings though. Once you get it right though, it's well worth
all the hard work.

LasVegas has a good guide for the two setup programs (AdvCfg and
AdvV)
Take a look at the lower half of his software page here:
