Title: My Bartop Project
Post by: monkeychunkuk on August 28, 2012, 04:23:46 pm
posted this over on hyperspin and i thought you guys may like to see my little project i really want to own a arcade machine, but of course with a baby joining the house im a bit tight on room so im going to scale down a full size cabinet

First i made a cardboard mock up using the dimensions from the tiny arcade kit
Oh and here is monitor i have spare

I changed the template a little and marked my first cut of the day onto 13mm thick Mdf

After lots of dust and cutting here are my two side once i cut the first one i used the other as a template

Now using the easy method i put the parts together as a dry fit ( my carpenter brother would be hanging his head in shame not one dove tail in site)

I screwed the 2 sides together and used a really course sandpaper now they are both the same shape

Soo end of the week and the cabinet is built, its kinda been 1 step forward 2 steps back. after i did the under coat i put the cabinet back together the fit was not great the trouble is when you cut with a jigsaw its very easy to wonder off the cutting line and my original measurements for width were a rough guess, using these handy set up plans i found, i marked up some MDF and popped along to Home base were you can get wood cut you get 2 free cuts and 50p for each cut after that.

I put it all together today and the fit is much better I also did a dummy fit on the buttons and joystick to check the spacing
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/5ad7b403-3524-64c1.jpg)

i took it outside and did a few under coats with gloss spray paint
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/d4b780d9-4761-77df.jpg)

i put it all back together and fitted a lock and few other bits here is front and back

here is me drilling out the control panel

i fitted the stickers i got printed on the Cp and fitted the buttons
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/5ad7b403-84f1-b75d.jpg)

i sat down and wired up all the buttons to the CP
(http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f225/imlived/5ad7b403-b00f-f20b.jpg)

Really nice job - I love the art.  How wide is your CP?  Is it comfortable to play a 2P game?
