I don't know, he didn't mix any personal attacks in with his announcement, so maybe this is someone different.

sudopinion, Driver-man is an insane guy who constantly makes new accounts here and at other forums to announce ridiculous software projects and generally troll folks. You may want to post some links to your other work, just to reduce suspicion.

Just relax and let RoM-Jacket handle your joystick.

Unnecessary feature overlap with my wife.  :afro:

No, you misread. Driver-man's software is ridiculous, Rom-jacket might range anywhere from daft to incredible, I haven't tried it. Just explaining the Driver-man thing. "All Apologies" for any misunderstanding.  :D

It goes like this....

The Parallel port sucks for arcade controls, USB based controls are a lot better.

Moving along,

I'll check the page out.

I don't really get what this does.  I mean, I'm all for macaroni and broken glass, but is this just creating batch files to run roms from a list - kind of a poor man's FE?

Jesus, there's a lot of batch files there. I would've switched to Perl or something else a little more manageable after about the first five or six batch files.

No, I didn't test it out. I'm not in the right environment for it. I just took a glance at the underlying source. Didn't really poke around too much.

I had no programming experience, so i just figured I would try to make the end result however I could.

Perhaps trying to make an all-in-one solution for setting up everything related to emulation is a bit ambitious for somebody without any programing experience.

I would suggest you try making some very simple programs first.  Perhaps some emulator-specific programs that would help fix an annoying configuration issue.  THEN move on to trying to solve everything. ;)

(p.s.  It will never happen.  It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the vastness of emulator and front-end choices out there.)

The fact that he (assuming what we're assuming about him) went this far does attest to his ambition. If I had no formal training, no knowledge of other languages, armed with only a manual, this is probably exactly how I would've tackled a similar problem given a similar environment.

Of course, at that time I didn't own a floppy drive and I had to write line numbers on every fricken line!

Damn kids nowadays.

You weren't overly concerned that it was DM last year.

bumping for updates
Support for emulationstation
works in linux under WINE
Title: Re: rom-jacket

Well, Kodi support has been added. RoM-Jacket will continue to distribute the last version compatible with Windows XP, but if you have Kodi it will be detected & RCB/ADVL will be configured
I've also been implementing a hash-based integrity checking system to help facilitate repository updates and help users who have interrupted or incomplete downloads.
Archive handling has been improved: Users who have their ROMs compressed individually now have some options on if/how to extract and jacketize them.
In addition to the supported systems compatible with MESS, a host of other systems (60 or so) can now be automatically configured.
Users who configure a MESS system which has multiple media types (tapes/carts/disks etc...) can allow RoM-Jacket to determine the media type.
A Mirror+ option has been added to the Frontend section which will convert box-art into icons for their mirrors (.lnk shortcuts). These are large (Vista) icons and look great in Windows Explorer.
Savestate/battery/memcard saves can be linked into the cloud (GoogleDrive, OneDrive and Dropbox) for backup and multi-computer gaming.
Many more options have been added for emulators and a "default-settings" option has been added in the jacketizing wizard to bypass these options in order to quickly setup any system.
Motioninjoy has been removed from the Drivers section.
WINE support has been enhanced.
retroArch core updater/downloader.
improved emulator downloading
bios-detection and installation improvements
art conversion options enhanced
