Title: Need some help with 60 in 1 Jamma Multicade, What do I do w these Cabinets ?
Post by: lymeguy on August 22, 2012, 05:43:28 pm
Hey Everyone, I trying to build then sell 60 in 1 Jamma Multicade machines.  I got these Cabinets pretty cheap.  Is it best to leave Original Artwork or do a full restoration when it comes to Price I can get ?

There is some rust on the Control Panels, some wood chipping in places, etc.  i.e. It's gonna take more then Grease Cleaner to get these where they should be.  Not sure Value wise, which way to go.  Any suggestions ?

Also, my Geo machine has 2 Joysticks and extra knobs.  In this case, should I just replace to entire Control Board/Graphics ?  Where is the best place to get "Graphics" for the Overlays ?

Lastly, the Cocktail table top glass is all scratched up.  Where can I get a new overlay ?

I'm so new to this, not sure what to do.  Putting these together is easy for me.  I know I have lots of questions, but again, would appreciate any help.  I need to keep costs down.

Thanks so much,

Gary

I think I'm safe in saying that if that Asteroids Deluxe cocktail has any original parts inside (working or not), it'd be near criminal to gut it for a 60-in-1.

Those cabinets are in quite good shape in general.  Unless they're totally gutted already, you'd probably do fine by just restoring and reselling them, forget the multicard.

Okay, wait... aren't 60-in-1s illegal?  I know there ARE legit multi-game cabs and boards, but most of the multi-games I've seen (especially those referred to as a XX-in-1) have been bootlegs.

Correct -- they are not licensed.

With very few exceptions (Exidy 440 and the recent few multi-releases of classics), most all multiboards are not licensed. Even the Multicade licensing is questionable.

To the OP, FWIW, none of those cabinets is an ideal choice for a quick conversion to 60-in-1 as they will all require rewiring to JAMMA (The MVS 4-25 is really close).

I'm also not sure that cleaning them up really nicely is effective from a cost-revenue standpoint -- the price point on 60-in-1s, while higher than MAME cabinets, isn't what it used to be, even if they are really nice.

Having said that, to get you started ...

For more specific advice, please let us know what condition the cabinets are in (e.g. do the monitors work, etc.)

That neo geo especially would not be well suited for a 60 in 1.

I think its kinda sad to see classic cabs like the pacman and others hacked into 60 in 1s

Craigslist is full of badly converted (read hacked), way over priced cabinets.

Why not use generic dynamo cabs.

But they are your cabs, if you're gonna convert them, at least keep them original looking.

There are several vendors online (Google is your friend) that sell control panel overlays and/or the cards under the glass.  Check with them, and just get a glass shop to cut you a replacement sheet to go on top.

Seriously, don't gut that machine.

I think Cheffo and mgb have the right mind in (accurately) telling how much trouble it would be, and the efficacy of doing it. I would add that each of those cabs is probably worth more selling to people on KLOV (or possibly here). Especially that MsPac cabaret.
