The movie Koyaanisqatsi came up in a thread in the Project Announcements forum.
Koyaanisqatsi (trailer) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PirH8PADDgQ#)
It looked intriguing, so I rented it.
I had a pretty strong negative reaction to it and made an inflamatory comment in said thread. :P
Koyaanisqatsi=Tampon in a Teacup
Rather than mess up a build thread, I thought it better to discuss the movie here.
Here is my take:
I was extremely disappointed. I thought it was going to be an epic take on the human condition that would evoke some kind of awe or emotion out of me.
It did nothing for me. I can imagine it being epic if I were on drugs, but I was not on drugs.
It felt like stock footage with new-age music overlayed and nothing more. ooooh mountain ranges...then rocks..then water....then bugs...omg that's so clever. ::) It's like describing evolution without words man (in stoner voice).
The movie has spectacular reviews, so obviously I'm in the minority here, but I call them as I see them.

Anyone else have a strong opinion?

I love that I didn't need tampon in a teacup explained to me. ;D

I had a similar reaction to the movie but I love that there was a theatrical movie release with a Hopi title.

Yep, that's it. It shows mountains, clouds, rain, buildings, people, then a rocket exploding, then in a bold statement at the end....cave drawings. :o

Seriously? Brief vintage clips of '70s/'80s arcade games and a few frames of boobs? What's not to like? :woot

Further in this vein: Badmouth, it's before your time, yo.
Most of Glass' music bores the ---fudgesicle--- out of me....although his early (late 60s) explorations are meditatively interesting....his music was in large part a reaction to the enthusiasm over atonality. I guess some of those enthusiastic were adamant. And he got butt hurt about it. Glass' music in the last couple decades has gotten a lot more mature.
