Title: CH-926 and I-PAC 4
Post by: the_gamer on August 21, 2012, 09:34:06 am
Hi folks, I have the CH-926 coin acceptor http://www.ebay.com/itm/Multi-Coin-Acceptor-Selector-Mechanism-Vending-machine-/250593770728?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D1483368190677724805%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Multi-Coin-Acceptor-Selector-Mechanism-Vending-machine-/250593770728?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D1483368190677724805%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26) and the I-Pac 4 http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac1.html)

My question is how to wire them to get them to work. I have four of those coin connectors can I wire them all to one 12-V output from the pc power supply? I have to wire the yellow 12V from the PC and the black ground from the pc to the 12V and ground from the coin acceptor. But does it suffice to connect the coin output from the ch-926 to the coin input of the ipac or does the ipac need anything on it's ground to get the correct signal? Do I have to connect a transistor or is the current right? What else do I need to consider? I hope you guys in here can help me to get it to work.

Thanks a lot for reading!

Am I the first one to try this? Nobody uses a coin acceptor?

I used them on a build before, nice mechs. You have to use a 5 volt Zener diode between ground and coin signal or you could fry the I-PAC.

I used: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049726 (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2049726)

Thanks a lot! This really helps me but I still have three questions left. The text says the ground connects to the ground on the I-PAC. So the ground from the disk connector is not used/connected? What setting for the pulse length is best for the I-PAC? Slow, Medium or fast?
Can I only connect one of those Coin Acceptors to a PC Disk Drive connector or can I connect multiple to one?

Edit: I just saw that in the picture you posted, it looks like the diode is connected in in a pallel circuit. That way the volt will stay the same. Is that right? Or does it have to be connected in series and the picture looks odd there?

It would be best to also connect the ground from the disk connector.
Any pulse length should work.
The zener is connected as shown to prevent the voltage on the coin output wire from rising above 5 volts. In fact its unlikely it would but this is just in case. This is not needed if used with a J-PAC.

OK, so connect both ground of the ipac and the disk connector to the ground of the coin acceptor.
The zener is connected as shown to prevent the voltage on the coin output wire from rising above 5 volts.
Are you really sure about that one? My point is that the Voltage coming out would not change, look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_and_parallel_circuits#Voltage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_and_parallel_circuits#Voltage)
Sure I don't need to wire it in series so that it can change the voltage? I'm a little confused about that point. But if all people here say to wire it parallel, i will wire it parallel because it works for all of you and so it will have to work for me, too.

Yes, all of the grounds get connected together.

As for the diode, connect it parallel like in Andy's diagram above:
Quote
Zener diodes are widely used as voltage references and as shunt regulators to regulate the voltage across small circuits. When connected in parallel with a variable voltage source so that it is reverse biased, a zener diode conducts when the voltage reaches the diode's reverse breakdown voltage. From that point on, the relatively low impedance of the diode keeps the voltage across the diode at that value.

Just to expand on this, of course if you were to connect a 5 volt zener diode in this way across a 12 volt battery to try to lower the voltage it would burn out. But it works in this application because the coin mech has a high resistance pull-up to 12 volts internally. Its not hard-driven to 12 volts. So the zener is not doing much work to pull the voltage down to 5.

Thanks a lot! Now the only problem is the connect them the right way around. Bought some z-diods on ebay. Will ask the manufacturer/google for the manual to find that out, I guess this will work.

Look for the line on the diode.  Easy way to remember which way it goes is that the line on the diode goes with the line in the schematic symbol.

Since zener diodes are reverse biased, connect the cathode to pin 2 (coin signal) and the anode to pin 3 (ground).

I have another problem here: I have only 2 yellow 12V-wires from my power source left but I need to power 4 of those. Is that possible? If yes, how to connect them?

It probably depends on the amperage of the power supply, but you could just connect two mechs to each 12v line.

It would also probably depend on the current draw of the mechs but I don't think they use a lot.

I used a 12 volt 1 amp wall adapter and connected two CH mechs and a 12v counter to the single power line and it works.

I have a PC-Power supply. This one: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0049HGZOK/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i06 (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0049HGZOK/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i06) Sorry for the german page but I can't find it on the bequiet homepage nor on amazon.com, only the 580W one. I hope it suffices.

To connect two, they have to be connected parallel to have the 12 V, in series each would only have 6V, right?

Correct.  They would need to be in parallel.

12v-----------------------------------
          |            |           |            |
       Light      Light       Light      Light
          |            |            |            |
Gnd------------------------------------

Since the 12v lines are rated for 18A each (http://www.pcsilent.de/en-pd-be-quiet-power-supply-Straight-Power-E8-quiet-120mm-fan-active-PFC-550W-1272.html), you can run all 4 in parallel with no problem whatsoever.

Sorry for my late feedback but I had some personal problems and couldn't build faster.
I did everything like it is described here. When I turn on the pc, the CH-926 starts beeping like
hell. Only for 1 or two seconds but it doesn't sound like it should be right. The light of "indicidation"
like it is called in the manual is lighting up constantly.

Can anybody tell what is the error and how to stop that terrible beeping?
