Title: Control Panel Finished!
Post by: Apollo on October 08, 2003, 03:01:48 am
Well stage one is finished. Now on to the cab.
I have had a bit to say about control panels lately as most of you will be aware so good or bad I want to hear your comments.
No trackball as I don't really play any trackball games ( although Centipede totally rocks as I have recently found out so you never know ). Spinner will probably be added later for Arkanoid and Tempest.
So nice not to be a "Project Announcements" virgin anymore, lol  :P

Thanks SNAAAKE.
The sticks are Comps and a MSPac/Galag 4 way ( which rulz by the way ).
The mounting plates I had made as I wanted the sticks at the right height ( I was originally going to use Asahi Seiko ball top 8 ways and the shafts are very short ) and also to be more easily swappable, they worked out great and I like the kind of industrial look they give.
There is an IPAC inside and a bunch of spaghetti as you can see below.
Sorry about the bluriness but disposable cameras suck.

that is a very good-looking and simple CP.  Great job.
You WILL need to rearrange things if you want to add a trackball, tho.

Thanks paladin, much appreciated.
I have another control panel in the works and I may end up with swappable control panels ( an IPac for each one ).
I see the next one having 1 X switchable 8-4 way stick, 1 X trackball, 1 X spinner and a Tron style stick for Tron and an analogue one for flight sims maybe, don't really know yet.
Ah well there's always another project in the works, I'm already planning my 3rd cab ( a cocktail ) and I haven't even completed my first, lol.
Man I just love this hobby.

Nice. So how do you like the Reunion 4-way with the mounting plate? Can you give any comments on how it feels and how precise it is?

Thanks for ypu comment Ledbetter, it seems most people will look but not comment so I appreciate that.
I haven't had much experience with other 4 ways but I can tell you that this must be up there with the best. It has a nice firm return and is very accurate. Another thing is when I'm playing I don't even notice the microswitch noise ( others have said that this detracts from the stick V's a WICO 4 way leaf for example ).
I highly recommend it and would defintely buy again.

Thanks folks, much appreciated. Now I'm just itching to get the cab done!
Oh well hopefully I will be able to post the finished project by end of March next year, crosses fingers. All I need is a PC and an ArcadeVGA card ( maybe Santa will help out ).
