Title: Where to get stools for cab?
Post by: Necro on August 20, 2012, 09:26:05 pm
Anyone know a decent place to get stools (or plans for a nice looking one to make easily)?  I need one for my arcade cabinet and for my work bench - I need something in the 30" height range and am having some issues finding something decently priced.

I have 4 of these in my basement or at least look very similar http://www.target.com/p/2-pk-stools-natural/-/A-12916731#?lnk=sc_qi_reviews (http://www.target.com/p/2-pk-stools-natural/-/A-12916731#?lnk=sc_qi_reviews) they are 55.00 for 2x! of them.. I think I payed 19.99ea at the time... Are they the most comfortable, no... are they cheap and suffice yes. They also came in handy when I needed to put legs on my pinball machine, I don't have a hydraulic lift. A friend of mine used folding work benches that were made out of plastic and was still alot more expensive than just using 2 wooden barstools. If you need it to swivel, or have a back in addition to possibly need it to be cushioned I would keep looking.

I got some mechanics-type stools (swivel, round, metal, pneumatic) at Costco a while back.

Or just go to a big furniture store like IKEA and get a stool sample.

BudgetBarStools.com sells through Amazon.  I got these and they are great.

Not sure where you're located, but a store called Garden Ridge near me carries hundreds and hundreds of stools of all types.

Thanks all.  I ended up going with the cheapest high solution I could find on amazon (a nice looking $29 wood bench) to basically test height.  It fits my cab AND workbench perfectly (both in diff parts of my basement) so I'm going to use it for both and decide if I want another or shuttling it back and forth works. :)

Not sure if you're into the 60s-70s soda shop look, but these can be had a harbor freight:

With a 20% coupon it's pretty cheap.  My version came from a store called BigLots.  You may have it there or not, sometimes they're called OddLots.  Basically, they buy leftover stock from shipments.  They have all kinds of stuff.  I get my Netgear USB wifi adapters there for 7 bux sometimes.

BigLots has a few more designs.  I got the Coke one (I'm in Atlanta, afterall), but they had a cowboy up one and another design.  I was looking to replace my hard stainless stool in my workshop, but since the arcade still hasn't been moved out (ahem), it gets used there, too.  It's cool because if you want to cut it down, just remove the bumpers and take the length out of the legs with a fine hack saw...

I'll attest that these are STRONG, too.

Mine was 14 bux with coupon...

When I redo my basement for the adults (at the end of fall), I'll be putting in a bar and using these.

I bought 6 of these a few years ago and love them, it took about 8 months to get them but how could you go wrong at 2 for $52.00 and free shipping? Even though they are $80.00 for 2 it  is still a very price, no free free shipping.
