I am looking to buy my first arcade machine for my home/personal collection. I do not know much about Golden Tee but this is what I'm in the market for. My problem is that it appears the dimensions for the unit wholly assembled would not fit through my doorway to my basement. Is is difficult, or even advisable, to break down the unit to smaller more manageable pieces? I would be buying from Ebay, or some other outlet, a unit that is already in working condition.

It usually isn't the doorway that is a problem, it is normally things like turns at the top, bottom, or middle of stairs that are the problem. A Fore should be 27" wide with the control panel on and you can can take that off to get a little more wiggle room.
Arcade games are not designed to come apart, but very few of them are actually too wide to fit through the smallest common interior doorway (which is 28", with most houses having larger than that).
Don't pay too much for one, Golden Tees are absolutely tanking in value right now as they are being pulled off location in massive numbers. 04-08 units were moving at less than $200 at the auction I went to last week.

That is right the depth of the machine is 44 inches and I'm afraid that I just cannot make that turn to the doorway. That is my problem as it is very tight to the door.

The machine isn't designed to come apart, but that doesn't stop you from taking it apart anyway and putting it back together in your basement. I have had to do that with a Star Wars cockpit, a Pole Position cockpit, a STUN Runner and a dedicated Die Hard.
Might also want to consider getting a Golden Tee Classic in a smaller conversion cabinet.
