Title: Wells Gardner 19k7602 Screen Issue
Post by: JoJoRockets52 on August 18, 2012, 10:57:10 pm
I am currently trying to hook up my Dreamcast to my Arcade Monitor. Saddly when it comes to arcade monitors I have very little experience if any at all. So I read some tutorials online about how to connect the Dreamcast through the VGA box using the 15khz "hack". I then wired up the monitor with a VGA cable which I stripped and installed it directly onto the RGB/Ground/Sync. I ended up getting an image that turned out like this (http://i.imgur.com/Uxeya.jpg)

 Any idea's?

What is the Sync pulse. Does that mean I'm missing either my vertical sync or horizontal sync. I really have no idea.

I read online that you were supposed to twist the H-sync and V-sync together (coming off the VGA box) (http://i.imgur.com/wDfkG.jpg)I spliced it with the grey wire coming off the monitor here (http://i.imgur.com/r20T9.jpg). I then attached the ground to the black wire (from the VGA). Then Red to Red/Blue to Blue/Green to Green. I think the colors are good its just that weird distortion.

hi
red/green/blue/black miss 1 sync/sync

So there are supposed to be two wires for the sync (horizontal/vertical)? Would that mean I am missing a ground wire? I really have no idea. I read that the k7000 series used composite sync on the negative H-sync. If so were would that be?

Again I'm sorry for being ignorant.

EDIT

I think I see what you are saying. So it looks like I'm missing a ground wire. Which would be pin 4.

Then I would wire vertical and horizontal to pins 5 and 6, but they are wired on a different looking harness. Would I need to add them to the 6 pin harness along with another ground wire?

How would I go about adding another wire to the harness?

Would it be best to just buy a new 6 pin harness, or is there an easy way to attach the 3 missing pins?

I need to run to Radio Shack and grab some more wire and will try again tonight. On another forum someone suggested wiring to the Neg V/H sync. Since the dreamcast outputs positive sync should I wire positive to positive or negative to negative?

Well I decided to just order a new harness online. I wired red/green/blue/ground/Vsync/Hsync and I no longer get any picture.  :banghead: Any Ideas?

hi
either use + sync or - sync
but never both

also a fast test is to remove the sync line's
and see what happen's
pic should be there but rolling vert, and have horz line's
ie the screen is light but u cannot get it to sync
that tell's u u are on the right track

I have the syncs wired to the positive spots. I doesn't look like I am even getting an image even with the syncs completely off.

could be wrong but i thought dreamcast to 15khz monitor requires a sync splitter

It has a horizontal/vertical sync. Though I'm not exactly sure what the sync splitter is.

I know but when I connected it i could not get an image (red/blue/green/gnd/vsync/hsync) I did get an image like my first post when I had V/H sync tied together onto the negative h sync.
