Off the wall and Warlords come to mind right away....also keep in mind that you can use spinners as 360 degree steering wheels

I used to play Two Tigers 2-player in local arcade with a friend, the cab had dual spinners. Playing the game with a joystick blows, but you may feel different. Game On!

To play racing games with 2 players comes to mind.  Super Sprint and Badlands is much more fun against another human opponent.

Didn't warlords use a pot based spinner though?  I don't know how well it would play with an optical spinner...

Yes, it was a POT based "paddle", but it will play fine in mame with 2 spinners.

I saw a Warlords machine at the Funspot arcade recently, and it was only the 2-player version.  My friend and I played on a team vs. the computer, which was totally rad.

How come more people don't use pot based spinners on their control panels? They are dirt cheap (a good stereo knob, or a real 70s pot based spinner hardly costs anything), and they are good for most spinner games (but not Tempest).

Just my opinion....they vary.  ;)

Forgotten Worlds!!!!  one of the great shooters of its day...of course a plain spinner is nto going to work quit right (the orig ahd push down spinners, push to fire).. but the DOT spinner takes care of thet problem...

Cant spinners be used for the
Heavy Barrel, Time Pilots, Ikari Warriors, Cal 50, etc... all the twisty Joystick games?

Also any 2 player racing game, Sprint, Demo Derby, etc..

never tested, so no idea.

I don't think most spinner games would feel right with a pot...

I am going to use one on my cab tho for paddle games and pot-based driving games, but have a spinner as well :)

I want to find this paddle!  Spinner just isn't right for this.

You could always build something very similar...
Cut out a couple of slots in some PVC...
PVC that fits inside the exterior...
Cabinet Handle...
100k pot...

 ;D
I'm sure it take a little longer to build that it took me to think it up, but if you really wanted a smililar control... You could always BYO...

what does "POT" stand for in an arcade sense?

POT is short for Potentiometer (sp).  They're analog controls used in things like volume knobs.  Essentially a variable rate resistor.

Yeah I now have three posts.

Well I'm about to have a  couple pot based spinners on my next control panel, but it's not a mame machine.  It actually is going to have an atari 7800 in it(which can also play 2600 games, and has many near perfect arcade conversions) and things like 2600 warlords would be a must ;)

I actually sort of was inspired by one of your projects.  When I saw that you are going to put a pong console in a cabinet, I started thinking about consoles also.

I cut out the sides of the cabinet yesterday(it's going to be a bartop).

I have a question about hooking up pot based spinners to your PC.  How do you configure it properly?  I replaced the pot in an atari 2600 paddle with one that is the right value for the PC's gameport.  I have it all wired correctly, and it recognizes it as a 2 axis joystick, but it's nearly impossible to configure.  Since they are not auto centering, I had to kind of guess where the center of it was.

Well, I have the dual usb tornado spinners hooked up - and they aren't working. I also have a trackball (happ 3" - ps2) hooked up. Windows 98 recognizes the trackball and one of the spinners as a mouse, but I can get them to work in the games.

What do I have to change to get all of these working? Analog mame has the same issue as well - so I must be missing something.
