I'm looking in to buying a skee ball machine, but I don't really know the appropriate price range for a decent machine.
I found a local one that's untested and in storage for $500, and that seems a bit high given its untested nature.
Any advice?

I bought 2 "non-working" units last summer. Paid $100 for the one that was on location and $50 for the one that was in storage. The one that was on location was just a jammed coin mech and worked 100% after fixing that. The one in storage took about $120 in parts (minor parts at that) to get operating 100%. Parts for skeeball machines can be scarce and expensive. I ended up trading the one that was in storage for a coin op dart machine (priced at $300). A set of 9 original balls in good shape will run about $100-$150 off ebay, NOS even more. Your best bet for switches is arcadeshop.de, even after currency conversion and overseas shipping their prices are lower than anyone in the states. If the lane and score ring cork is dirty, TaskiProfi works wonders for cleaning it up. I'd be a little weary buying an "untested" machine for that much, but I'm cheap... I'd definitely try to see if it powers up before making an offer. Power supplies and CPUs tend to be a little pricy (model H and S lanes).

Here's the machine:

He's asking $500, and it comes with balls

Well, it's a 13 footer and a 4 player machine (don't see too many of those). If it powers up I'd be willing to fork over close to the asking price...

...if not, you're gambling. But sometimes gambling pays off. I'd love to have a working 4 player machine.

Just look around on ebay for skeeball parts...they are not cheap....clean that thing up and its worth that price on parts alone. Never seen a 4 player one. I've been making a full sized skeeball using a SkeeToss BC game and I'm in too it over $500
Over $200 and go from there

My quest for a skeeball was shot down, at least until there's an addition on the house....
I'll just start building one and spread the cost over several years

Why can't our SOs see this is more than just a hobby for us? We're not doing these builds because we want to bankrupt the household... :badmood:
I mentioned somewhere else that while I'm finally getting some approval, albeit grudgingly, her main fear is that I will build it, play for about 2 months, and then it will just sit there as a "dust collector." :banghead:

Mine sees it for what is really is... a disease.
