Title: multiple tvs
Post by: nelsonej on October 07, 2003, 10:43:35 am
does anyone know what the technology is called or what companies make it (websites would be nice) that allow an array of TVs to make one large image?

I guess the best example would be what they had Nintendo hooked up to in FAO Schwartz, or possibly some kind of elaborate sports bar setup

the reason I'm asking is because I work for a small college and we have some extra money (I know, weird) and we're looking to completely remodel our game room into a sports bar place

Those are cool.

Best Buy store around here has something that looks like it, but upon further review, it's just a projection unit with black bars blocking out parts of the image.

I'd like to know how this is done too.

www.xlvideo.com/display_systems/video_walls.html (http://www.xlvideo.com/display_systems/video_walls.html)

Found this through a search on "Jumbotron" This company does both outdoor LCD screens and indoor video walls like you're discribing.

All you need to do to get one video image on multiple monitors is to use a scanline converter (or actually one per tv). With the scanline converter you can grab any signal and crap and adjust the image anyway you want to.  So if you have a single video source going into 20 scanline converters, you can crop the image appropriately on each one and have a tv hooked up to each one to display the indivdual outputs. Stack the tv's appropriately and there you go.  A good scanline converter will run you $5k.

so if you were to have only 4 tvs - then that would run at least $20k just for the converters?!  :o not to mention the tv's themselves.
