Title: Router Help
Post by: Noclass_Nick on August 05, 2012, 05:43:40 am
I brought myself a router finally to do the slot cutting, i got a slot cut piece ages ago but it just doent seem to want to stay in the router, im not sure what brand the slot cutter is but it seems wierd to me that the blade isnt actually attached to the shaft that goes into the collet adapter, although when i put it all in and tighten the nut the bit still falls out it doesnt tighten in, i tried the bits that come with the router and they seem to stay in. Is there different size adapter bits? i assumed when i brought it they were universal? any help?

Pics would help me alot too

Yep, there are different sized collets. are you using 1/4".  My router came with 2 different sized collets 1 for 1/4" and the other for 6mm. Check if you have another collet in with everything else.  (Whatever you do, do not keep trying to crank down on the collet as you may mis-shape it and then its a real pain in the A to get back out again.

Yeah the collet adapter im using is 6.35mm the cutter bit is 6.40mm, so it should fix since its bigger than the collet adapter but still doesnt tighten around it. I brought a new slot cutter bit cos it had a different shaft but again it doesnt seem to sit tight in the collet. Arg so annoying, these are the only slot cutters i can seem to find around here.
