Hey all!
I was having some problems getting an write error after a while of transferring Blitz 99 onto a compact flash card so I upgraded mame to 0.146 and there was also a newer version of CHDman. I'm pretty positive I'm doing the command right but now all it's saying is this.
The real help I need now is to know if this is the right command to take the CHD I have on my computer and put it on my flash drive.
This is what happens after about 93%. The file is only 343 MB and I'm using a 2GB compact flash card!
C:\Blitz99>chdman.exe extractraw -f -i blitz99.chd -o \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2
chdman - MAME Compressed Hunks of Data (CHD) manager 0.146 (May 21 2012)
Output File: \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2
Input CHD: blitz99.chd
Error writing to file; check disk space (\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2)
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!
Thanks

CHDs are compressed, HDDs tend to be large and contain a lot of blank space which compresses well so the original size will be a lot bigger than 343MB. CHDMAN requires a device the size of the original drive or bigger, I'd guess it's a simple case of it being from a drive which was bigger than the one you're trying to put it on.

Ok and just a couple questions so I can better understand it. Before I go buying a bunch of different card sizes for different games. Is there any sure way to tell what size CF card I'm going to need? I've already bought 2 cards going on my third. I may actually abandon the idea because I've already spent how much money on cards I'm not going to use and I got the readers etc just sitting here.
Also say for Killer Instinct. The CHD is only 91.1MB and I successfully used a 215MB card. Why is it that I was able to use such a small card with KI?

I would say the easiest way to find out what the size is would be to extract the chd to a folder on your main hdd you can then see how much real room it needs. Because the CHD is a full image it includes blank space as well. Killer instinct would probably uncompress to 128MB others will be 256MB, then 512MB then 1GB and upwards. I very much doubt that there will be many bigger then 8GB uncompressed (Although I could be wrong), So if you can get your hands on an 8GB card you should be golden.

Cool thanks a lot for the explanation. I really appreciate it.
