DANGER! DANGER WILL ROBINSON!
At some point Thursday evening (after 11 PM EST), we will be moving BYOAC over to a new server and upgrading to a new version of SMF. By we I mean Sirwoogie will do all the work and saint will wring his hands nervously while drinking root beer. You may lose access while DNS entries update.
I will update this post in a little while with the IP address of the new server, and info on manually getting to the new server while DNS updates trickle around.

That's awesome, maybe not as awesome as this:
but still awesome. Maybe now I'll be able to access it from work (until they update the block).
-
Are you finally making the jump to SMF 2.x?
I'm chicken. I'm still on 1.1.16.
My plan is to eventually move to 2.x and switch to some sort of SMF portal package at the same time for the front page like SimplePortal...
http://www.simpleportal.net/ (http://www.simpleportal.net/)
You might want to consider something like that here. Nothing personal, but your main page is kinda sad and outdated looking compared to the forums, wiki and whatnot.

Pardon me while I go off-topic for this thread for a moment...

If you have your own website that supports php, you might want to check out knproxy
http://sourceforge.net/projects/knproxy/ (http://sourceforge.net/projects/knproxy/)
If not, I think you could run your own webserver to host the proxy software on a cablemodem or dsl connection, punch a hole in your firewall, and use one of those dynamic dns services to be able to access it over the web.

I'm always annoyed by no matter how short or long I'm on here, at some point, it'll freeze up for about a minute. It always seems to happen right before I'm about to post something, so then I'm left wondering the next minute or two whether it took while whatever the problem is works itself out. So far it always has, but I'm always still wondering!
I can load other pages just fine, so it ain't my end.

It is sad and that's exactly what I've been thinking about doing. :)

OK, I have most things working again. Some of the mods on the forum are not working yet, and we no longer have the classic theme. I also realize the quick nav bar at the top isn't the best formatted, but is at least there. This will be a WIP for a few more days.
Please report any lingering issues in this thread.

:applaud: So far so good.

Tapatalk is way faster now. Thanks for the upgrade.

Tapatalk works!
Thanks to Saint and Sirwoogie.

not my favorite forum software to use but an upgrade is still an upgrade. Could always get a custom arcade-like theme going. love the idea of using a portal as a main page, I've owned a number of large forums with over 100,000 members and i always used portals to simulate a main page.
-
This feels weird...
-
OK - we'll be tweaking and poking at things for the next few days. BIG THANK to sirwoogie for all the hard work on this upgrade. It was a lot harder and tedious than you might think. The old server and forum software had gotten a bit rusty so migrating everything over without losing all of our data was quite an undertaking.
Yes, the theme will be tackled. :)
-
so far so good here.
Nice work woogs
-
Looks so much more current. I like it.
The only differences I've noted are:
1. When I type, there seems to be many frequent delays before the last few characters are displayed. For this post for example, there were about 8-9 hiccups. Since I have a habit of looking at my screen while I type it gets a little weird.
2. When you view a picture attachment there is now a dialogue box that pops up asking if you want to open or save a file. That would be nice to default to "open" or "view".
Running smooth though, nice job. That's a scary undertakiing.

try cleaning out your browser cache.
-
I like the new layout so far. Not terribly different from the old one, but more aesthetically pleasing.
-
clicking "new" on the "new replies to your posts" to bring you to the last viewed post doesn't work. It just loads the first post of the first page.
-
Still showing threads started by ignored users. Ho hum.
For some reason, I read this in Eeyore's voice... lol

So, you want entire topics to not show up if the user is on the ignore list or individual messages contained in a topic to not show up? I've tested this, and any messages in a topic do hide if the user is on the ignore list.
-
I like the new looks
I was hoping there might be a more straightforward way of attaching images inside the body of a post. Maybe I'm missing it?

Use BBC code (http://<Your IMAGE URL>) if you want inline. Otherwise, the attachment option is available when you do a reply
-

That did it.
I don't understand why this works. Short explanation?
-

I am now getting this too. Will work on it.
-
I'm guessing you mean the (bracket) img (bracket) code, which that does work for inline, but what I really meant was a way to attach an image to the post, and then refer to that attachment IN the post, to show the image inline.
For instance I've seen some forum software that allows you to upload an attachment to a post, then before you actually submit the post, you can edit the content and insert something like
(img)#1(/img)
which then acts exactly like the image code works, but pulls the image from the #1 attachment to the post itself.
Maybe SMF just doesn't have anything like that.
Here's a test
(http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=121676.0;attach=188018)
Ah, ok. to do that, I had to attach the image, SAVE the post, then MODIFY the post, grab the URL of the attachment, and insert it into the post body in IMG tags.
That'd work, and it is a little less trouble than attaching images over on that other "Post images here" thread.
hmmm....
-
I'll be looking at mods here shortly, might be a mod for that.
-

Right, but if you click reply, all their posts are revealed. If other people quote them, the post is revealed. Threads started by them still show up on your topic list. I'd like complete invisibility.
 to :blank:
okay, so what you are going to want to do first is go ahead and unplug the computer. :lol

Nice use of the new smiley. :blank:

Glad to see the 2.x Admin password still works!

So long before Driverman gets onto the new forum?
I think he's been dealt with elsewhere already: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42227&start=90 (http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=42227&start=90)

The colors are driving me nuts and are on my short list to change :)
-
This is SOOOO much better than the old theme. It was really showing it's age.
Thanks Woogie!

The colors are driving me nuts and are on my short list to change :)
I don't know about the default themes on SMF 2.0, but I took the default SMF 1.1.x theme and ran all the graphics files through a batch process that shifted all the colors toward green. Then I fiddled with the CSS to change the background to black and the text to green and ended up with this...
http://www.tankadin.com/forum/ (http://www.tankadin.com/forum/)
It's been a long time since I did the batch process on the graphics, but I think it was just a matter of shifting the hue. I can't remember.
I generally prefer websites with dark backgrounds because I do a lot of my web surfing at night in the dark before I go to bed. The white backgrounds are always too bright. The problem with dark backgrounds is that it's really easy to spot when you're surfing the web at work from a distance as most "ok for work" sites have a white background.
-
if that's the case can we choose between a light or dark theme then?
i know sometimes it would be better to have it dark but others light.
-
If we get a new theme here, it will probably be the only one. Supporting all the different mods on different themes is a major PITA. Like the "new" button for recent posts, probably broken by a mod. We will strike the best balance we can for stability and features.
-
blue gray?
i'm digging this blue, but not the pink.

like this only not so bright blue

I believe I have the "new" topic icon working properly again. Old rewrite rules carried over apparently don't need to be there. It was messing with that feature

Please report any lingering issues in this thread.
Xiaou2 still has access, fix please. See below:
Any way to stagger the post color? Its hard to follow white on white.
Even if the main post body is a darker color.. it would help some... as the white lines would help break things up.
-
the colors seem to be controlled by a combination of simple css and html image mapping

Is it just me or does it now show what section you are in? For example, if I click on Main, then it shows threads but where is the header saying this is "Main" ?

Is there a way to avoid the slider bar for large photos? (Red box in this photo.)
Maybe auto-resizing pictures w. click for full size?
When there are a number of pictures in a row, an important detail may be off screen.
In this post (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,121653.msg1291156.html#msg1291156), TJC mentions the basketball in a photo, but it's not visible unless you move the slider. If you don't move the slider back, you can't see the text on the left. :banghead:
Thanks and keep up the great work, Saint and Sirwoogie!
