Title: MaLa lists game as missing roms, yet loads in command line MAME??
Post by: lettuce on July 24, 2012, 04:17:55 pm
I have tried to load Hang-On via Mala put a dos window appears saying it is missing files, yet if i load the rom from command line mame (using the same folder as mala uses) then the game loads fine. Any ideas why Mala says there files missing, other games appear to load fine?

All Mala does is tell MAME which rom to load, not where it is located.
That path is set in MAME.ini and handled by MAME.
If MAME appears to launch in the window, Mala has done it's job.

If you have Mala hiding everything in parenthesis, it could be that Mala is passing the name of one of the clone roms instead of the parent.
And if you've eliminated clones from your romset, it would be missing files.

Anything non-standard in your setup like:
Do you have multiple rom paths set up in Mala?
Are you sure that Mala is pointing to the same MAME.exe as your command line?

I will also add that I've had to teach Mala a few games.  (most likely because the actual name of the game was somewhere else and I didn't find it the all games list where I thought it was.  The Game Paradise-Master of Shooting is under T not G or M! but I digress)

I swear ID-10-T errors aside some Games/ROMS have flat out been missing from the MALA all games list, or they've been pointed to the wrong ROM.  Fortunately the games list editor makes this a snap to fix.  It's pretty intuitive but it basically involves moving a dummy ROM from the all games list to your game list.  Then right clicking it under your games list and editing the display name of the ROM and/or the ROM that it is pointed to.  VOILA, problem solved.

Post back when you figure out what it was, as I recall you are running multiple versions of Mame in one list?  could this be the issue (Mala trying to run the ROM with the wrong Mame version?)
