Title: Noob Question: Do you replace all the Caps? Even the big ones?
Post by: gonzalma on July 24, 2012, 12:32:57 pm
I bought a Cap Kit for my SI 327DS monitor.  Well sort of, no one seems to offer a cap kit for this model however I ordered one for a SI 327 monitor hoping that they would be close.  Well they are not.  The kit I bought has some of what I needed and I was able to get most of the missing ones from RadioShack.  So anyway here is the question:  What about the larger Caps?  Like a 220uF 400V or a 100uF 200V.  Pretty much the standard advice here is that when you buy a cap kit, you are suppose to replace ALL the caps.  But I dont see any kits that even offer these larger sizes so the question is are these suppose to be replaced too.  And if not, how come?  I would appreciate any advice.  Thanks.

No most cap kits don't come with the larger caps. (at least none of the cap kits I have ever got)
The larger cap is the power filter cap. These don't very typically get changed but sometimes you may have a houla issue where the picture seems to be moving side to side like, then you may change the big filter cap.
