Title: Using NeoTec S-501 monitor, stable picture but little jumpy
Post by: Frankee on July 19, 2012, 04:04:29 pm
Hey everyone, was hoping someone can help me out here!

I am new at this and I have a pc all set up and hooked up to the arcade monitor, ready to go except for one minor problem that I can't seem to figure out...

The video output on the monitor that I am getting makes it hard read the text because the picture is slightly waving up and down when it is stable.  If i set the v-sync off so it starts to cycle up and down the screen, you can read everything fine while the picture is in motion but once you stabilize the v-sync its hard to read text.  I've tried taking pictures but it just looks blurry.

I'm using a radeon X1950 on NeoTec S-501 monitor at 15khz using soft15 and using a J-Pac to connect to the monitor and controls.

I've tried using powerstrip also with no luck and I haven't tried to use the calamity drivers yet as I am not 100% sure if you just need to install them and your good or if you have to use them with the ArcadeOS and Groovymame for them to work.

Aside from this small issue this machine seems to be working correctly!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Figured everything out and now have successfully done a change over of an Arcade Legends 2 cabinet to a mame box.

The problem I was encountering was that the resolution was not completely supported by the monitor (although it says otherwise) so the picture was jittering, after testing a list of resolutions, I was able to find the magic numbers that worked!

Thanks everyone for the information provided by this forum as it helped greatly in making this possible!

Hi Frankee,

I'm hoping I can revive this thread because I have the exact same setup and I'm trying to get it working but I can't figure out the right modeline (or resolution and scan rate) to set the video card at.

For anyone else reading, I have a NeoTec NT-S501. I *believe* (but I'm not 100% sure) that it is a 25khz scan rate EGA monitor with a fixed resolution of 640x350. I tried using http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl (http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl) to generate a modeline but it it doesn't seem to be right. I get an image and it is pretty stable vertically but horizontally the screen repeats itself and the lines "wrap around" a bit.

Thanks!

I'm replying to myself for posterity. I figured out that my monitor supports 15khz resolutions such as 640x240, 512x240, 384x240, 256x240. I'm getting somewhere  :D
